I'll admit that Caesar 2 was the closest one of those games has come to entertaining me. Awesome? Nah.
It had great graphics for the time (the city screen was marvellous, and the cinematics were bloody well done too!).
lovely game.. I played it time and time again when I was 11 or something thereabout"An archaeologist is the best husband a women can have; the older she gets, the more interested he is in her." - Agatha Christie

I would be fun, if they could connect Civ4 and Civ-City... Managing an empire, one street at a time.
There aren't that many games like that. I seem to recall, Rules of Engagement, a spaceship simulator, you could bolt a game called Breach into it, for boarding actions and the likes. Pity, though, that Breach wasn't very good.. And ROE was.
The difficulty would be getting it so that the different games work well together. If you go into a city and set it the way you want, then go up a level and play a few turns on Civ, when you go back in, a few centuries could have passed and your work would have been wasted.

Well, the way you'd have to do it is to have it be just a 'minigame' in the grand tradition ... where the result of the minigame has an effect on the big game, but just a single or small number of them. IE, if you do well you can adjust your city's size slightly, or money, or something, but nothing major changes, and nothing's 'saved' - ie, if you went into the same city again it would essentially start over (But with the higher size or whatever).<Reverend> IRC is just multiplayer notepad.

For anyone interested in this game:
FiringSquad: Are there any plans for a demo of the game to be released and if so what will be contained in the demo?
Simon Bradbury: Yes we will be releasing a demo, we are working on it now. It will probably be the first few levels of the game.
FiringSquad: What is the current status of the game's progress and when will it be released?
Simon Bradbury: As I write this, we have just gone to duplication (a great moment for any dev team!),I believe the release is around the end of July
This space is empty... or is it?

I tried SimCity 2000 once. Then I realized it only comes with one difficulty level, "annoying." No matter what you do, the little buggers whine about something, and you steadily lose money trying to keep them from moving out or rioting. Plus you can't move soldiers in to shut them up like in Civ. To hell with that. IIRC Caesar was a little better in that respect, but it was still frightfully good at undermining the player's respect for democracy. The people never do anything but sit there and complain. Maybe I'd be interested if they released "CivCity: Corrupt Third-World Dictatorship Edition."
"God bless the Leader! He provided medicine for my grandmother to treat the wounds inflicted by the soldiers who beat her!"
"I think life in Kyrzygnost is very nice. The new cinderblocks keep the rainwater out of my basement."
"Things are looking up for us. My local police chief has been drinking a lot less recently. I would say at least half of the people he decapitates are guilty in some way."

I enjoyed SC2k, but versions after that turned into a Sims-ish game.
Caesar II was also enjoyable, except it had bugs that made it difficult to play through to the end. I would usually hit a province where if you tried to access all the resources the AI would get lost and mysteriously claim towns, trade posts, farms, or mines were not connected to the city.
Caesar III was a steaming pile of camel dung. Abysmal interface, more of a clickfest than AOx.(\__/) Save a bunny, eat more Smurf!

Its not that hard once you get the hang of it. Mainly, keep on top of the demand sliders - when demand is for industry, zone for industry, etc, etc. Dont borrow money, play zen -dont do too much, let the city develop and give you revenue.

Well these folks ARE living under an empire that does everything for them. Theyre not supposed to be active citizens. Still, they are the ones working in the farms, claypits, armories - all you are doing is sitting at a keyboard

That would be great. I'm sure they will have a game like this in a few years. It would take a lot of memory if each city (in the world) had the detail of a Simcity city that you could go into and manipulate. If you could then go down to a GTA type game within the cities.... I'd never leave my computer. Probably a good thing...."A person cannot approach the divine by reaching beyond the human.
