    What didn't you like?
I didn't like the focus on action in the last third and it seemed hard when I first played it, but after a few hours I got the feeling wich monsters where too tough for me and the game opened up...

Which rpg/frp games do you usualy play?
(that say's loads about gaming preferences)
I'm not buying BtS until Firaxis impliments the "contiguous cultural border negates colony tax" concept.

From memory the specs were pretty demanding. Similar to Oblivion in terms of graphics cards. I'll try look it up tonight when i have access to my bookmarks.

Well, I'm always open to new games, so I might. However, I don't like non-linear RPGs generally, and gaming time is scarce, against a backdrop of lots of fine games to play.

          I wasn't hot about the control scheme really. I liked Fallout, Fallout 2, Baldur's Gate 1 & 2, Morrowind, Oblivion, Planescape:Torment, KOTOR 1 & 2.

They've changed the control scheme in G3 so that it's closer to the average US and UK player.

Finaly a game that you can get in Europe before its available in America!

I just bought my very own copy of Gothic 3
(in a local store at that ).

                      Let the adventure begin.

I won't be on this forum for at least 48 or so hours
( that's how long I'll need to tear myself from the game).

Looks good, how come I have not heard of it before?

Maybe they have no marketing team at all?

Burjaci, can you do a short review of the game? I would like to know more about it from a players perspective.

Try not to convince me to play it just the goods, the bads and the uglies.

It's not the only one, though they are unusual. It usually happens with games that are developed and distributed in Europe. The majority of games are either developed by a North American studio or distributed by a publisher based there.

That said, I'd be interested in hearing what you have to say about it also. I've heard quite a bit about all the Gothic games, though I never played the first two. I was a bit late coming to know them, and never went back and picked them up.
Age and treachery will defeat youth and skill every time.

They're German games and translated into English. Certainly in the UK it was a very low profile release and the english language expansion pack was only release a couple of years after the original game. The bulletin boards suggested lack of demand and a distribution deal (and Jowood had financial problems). I think it was the same in America. I bought my copies on ebay at quite a premium.

IN terms of gameplay I found them to be everything morrowind wasn;t. It's a much smaller area and as such much more tightly focused. The first game is showing its age but the second is still worth playing.

On the downside is the control system, the character development is basic (although i warmed to it) - only 3 stats and about half a dozen skills; it's also fairly linear compared to Morrowind with high level creatures keeping you penned in and weapons and armour being rationed. I also got stuck a various points until i reached a high enough level to not get killed all the time - lots of hunting for low level creatures for experience.

On the plus I found it a very immersive world, the NPCs are distinct, the quests are varied and have multiple solutions, the combat involves a bit of skill once you get the hang of it. The main town feels much more alive than a lot of the RPGs i've played. There's also in the early stages not too much emphasis on uber magic items which i liked although occasionally it would be nice to have more than a couple of armour types.

Haven't played 3 yet but looking forward to it.

This certainly looks intriguing - will check it out when there's time.
