  • O.K. Wow. Like a completely different game. I imagine I just had awfully bad luck with that ATI card, but this 7900 GT is a seriously good performer. I just ran at 1600x1200 (no AA yet) and had an average of 40 FPS outside and 50 or higher inside (click on the thunbnails...FPS is in the upper right). There were still rare stutters when running into a new area, but just brief things. Otherwise, I'm really floored.

Here are some screens, but keep in mind these photos went from 5 MB down to 200k for the forum:

--click the photo, then click it again once inside Image Shack--

A dead attacker. I can actually see detail on armour, etc.

I even want to go to church now...

...and I prayed to the sunlight and stained glass...

A few more things about this card: It has its own power connection! It seems quieter. It draws less power than the ATI one I had, and so far has run cool after more than an hour of Oblivion play. I think we have a keeper!

    • I'm surprised you can still see jaggies at 1600x1200... Sorry, but the first two are ugly. But glad to hear the new video card is performing great

      • Yeah, no AA on this setting. Off to try that next to see if frame rates tank.

        • How do you check your frame rates, is there an .ini setting or console command to use?

          • There is a way to do it in game, but I'm using a free program called FRAPS (credit goes to Asher). The program also lets you do screen shots.

            • O.K. 1600x1200 with 4xAA. Frame rates holding strong, though dropped to high 20s outside during a battle against two enemies. Man, I was dropping to high 20s outside, NO enemies on the lowest resolution setting with my stock Radeon 550. I hope the water details shows up in that last picture.

Who are we talking about here? Me?

I currently have a Mobility 9800 in my laptop and the laptop on order has two nvidia 7800GTX in SLI.

I was just commenting on the release notes from ATI.

                        • Just a quick overclocking update: I steadily raised the core clock to 570 MHz and the memory to 1640 MHz (it comes from eVGA at 550/1580). Even so after a 1.5 hour play session, I dropped to the desktop and checked the temperature of the card: 52! At idle the GPU is about 42, so to only go up 10 degrees at overclock after intense gaming is darn impressive (I entered the Oblivion gate, so lots of action in there graphically).

                            • LOL! I have tried so hard for that title. Who knew it would be a graphics card that earned if for me. I shouldn't say it's perfect at 1600x1200...just super close.

                              • It looks like I can run oblivion after all abet just barely. 2.4 Ghz processor, 512 ram, and I a128 mb ATI Redeon 9700 AGP. Since I'm so close to the minimum specs I'm wondering it would be worth the $39.99 to try it out.
