O.K. Wow. Like a completely different game. I imagine I just had awfully bad luck with that ATI card, but this 7900 GT is a seriously good performer. I just ran at 1600x1200 (no AA yet) and had an average of 40 FPS outside and 50 or higher inside (click on the thunbnails...FPS is in the upper right). There were still rare stutters when running into a new area, but just brief things. Otherwise, I'm really floored.
Here are some screens, but keep in mind these photos went from 5 MB down to 200k for the forum:

A dead attacker. I can actually see detail on armour, etc.
I can now make out faces...
Sometimes you just take a moment to gawk...
I even want to go to church now...
...and I prayed to the sunlight and stained glass...
A few more things about this card: It has its own power connection! It seems quieter. It draws less power than the ATI one I had, and so far has run cool after more than an hour of Oblivion play. I think we have a keeper!
