  • The original Shogun collection and the first Medieval(that you didn't like), were probably the best in the Total War series. You can get some good mods for these games.

I sold my copy of MTW2, partly due to frustration on those bugs/balance issues Dr.Spike mentioned, but also when I discovered that the expansion was going to install some rather dubious copy protection on my PC(is it secure-rom?).

I've got pretty impatient with modern copy protection, it really does seem to cause problems(I'm on my third DVD-ROM in as nearly many months).

I suspect this along with stupid spec requirements is part of the reason for the drop in PC games sales.

People talk about PC gaming dropping. But it's really not that bad. PC games sells much better than it seems from the stastistics, as legal downloading is not accounted for.

        • I'm starting to regret buying the Phoenix Wright games. They were good fun to start off with, but as the cases progress, they seem to get more and more illogical. I'm on the last case of PW1 and I'm stuck. There have been several times I got stuck before and looked up how to progress from the walkthroughs. Each time my response was less "Ah! Of course!" but more "Oh. If you say so..."

The same problem hampered my runthrough of Zelda: Ocarina of Time and all of its successors. THey're such good games I feel I have to play them, but the counterintuitive puzzles they give you leave me cold.

          • ...The new Transport Tycoon set in the Rollercoaster Tycoon Engine...

It just doesn't work. It's actually worse than the original version...since now placing streets is 100X more annoying. Instead of keeping to sim city-like placement, you have to place it like paths in RCT- which works... for RCT (which is an EXCELLENT game).

But as for improving on the TT1 engine... This game failed to do that at all.

Railroad Tycoon I or II are both easier and more fun than the updated TT... Heck, TT1 was easier to use and more fun than the remake!

That particular game was in the donation bin less than 2 days after purchase. (Thankfully it was bought in a bargain bin for the price of a movie ticket)

              • I think I posted earlier, but a game I bought recently has earned a place on this list.

Age of Conan - buggy client, having to pay to beta test a console MMO, crack smoking designers, lack of content, immature bunch of retards playing the game, frequent massive lag spikes and a few other things I can't think of just now.

If we were to open a second thread "List of games you are glad to not have bought", this game would be my #1.

                    • Somebody got me Ultima II for the SNES a while back, because they knew how much I liked the Ultima games on the PC.

It wasn't all that good. I got stuck on the level in the Stygian Abyss where you have to make a pie in a factory.

Also, I played a game called "Lula" back in high school. All my guy friends thought it was awesome but I thought it was really bad.

I bought Star Wars: Supremacy (known as Star Wars: Rebellion in the US) and it was pretty bad. It had promise, but in the end the strategic resource allocation was lacking, and the space battles weren't as good as they could have been. Not to mention the hidden game mechanics between characters sometimes got irritating.

Technically only the last game counts for the purposes of this thread.

                        • Col2 might get on this list. It's not nearly as fun as #1. On the easiest level it's next to impossible to win. If you don't try cheesy tactics that I have no intention to try.

                              • I *think* i'm probably going to regret buying 'Guild - Universe'.

It's still in its plastic wrapper sitting on my shelf, and maybe i'll have more fun just thinking about how potentialy good it could be, as is the situation now.

Having gone through the forums for this series of games, well i'm prepared for anything, but mostly dissapointment and hard work.....which might well save this game and require me to edit this post!
