I didn't really play FFXI for that long, but payed for it for ~4 months

and I payed for AO for ~9 months more than I played it (I did play it off and on (and sometimes very very heavily (100+ hours a week) for ~9 months though)

I payed for CoH for 2-3 months more than I played it

payed for EQ2 for about a month more than I played it (I only played it for a month)

payed for WoW for about a month longer..

some of them, even with the extra time spent, probably still come out to a decent money to entertainment ratio (even AO.. I played it a ton for months...)

    JM

( I don't regret buying these, I am just trying to put StarWars Galaxies in prospective)

I only ever buy games that are super-discounted, so while I sometimes buy crap, I rarely regret it very deeply. That being said, even the little bit of money I spent on Time Machine wasn't worth it.

Hmmm I generally I have a pirate first, buy later policy, but I'll sometimes buy the next game in a series where I pirated the first (and lacked the motivation to pay for it).

Simcity 3000 Unlimited: I just got it too close to Simcity 4, and it's not a great game.
Roller Coaster Tycoon2: I already had (paid for) the original and both expansions and RCT2 adds like nothing. Total spending on RCT series wasn't excessive though.
Black and White 2: While I enjoyed playing it, I don't think I got my moneys worth. (I don't regret buying B&W1... no wait, I pirated that one... so on balance I'm okay with paying for B&W2)
Civ3, Civ3 Conquests: More than anything I had higher expectations. I can't remember a single memorable game of Civ3. Still I got SO much value out of SMACX (which I pirated... paid for SMAC tho, but Alien XF has always been hard to find here) that I don't begrudge spending money on Civ3, nor Conquests, which I actually gave to a friend.

I'd almost say I regretted spending money on WoW, except I did enjoy (most of) my time playing it and when I sold my account I recouped all the monetary expenses. Sure, lots of time wasted, but I gotta waste my time somehow.

I regret buying Civ 1 in 1992, I could have had a social life during the 90's.

Civ 3 - the Chinese edition (where they edited Mao Zedong out and put in Emperor Taizong LiShiMin instead).

            Black and White

Star Wars: Supremacy (Rebellion in USA)

            Lula (very obscure game)

Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell for GameCube

Im in the same boat as Rufus.

The first three games I bought were Simcity 2000, AOE, and Civ2:TOT. Not only were they great games i spent lots of time with, but by the time I had moved on there were lots of games I wanted that were heavily discounted. While some of the bargain bin finds ive bought were not great, I cant think of any than werent worth the price.

Some that were close to marginal

MS flight sim 98 - kinda frustrating without a joystick. Still, I got to see what Flight sims are all about, and actually learned something about flying.

SimMania (sim tower, sim chopper, streets of SC, Simisle, simsafari,) - no single game was very good, and
i never got simisle to work - but the modest amount of time i spent with the first three games listed justified the purchase.

Myst - Actually spent a fair number of hours on it, but found it frustrating and not fun. At least I got to find out what this type of game is about. Probably the closest to "disappointment" even at a very low price. I expected it to be better.

I want a game, not a series of movies

                gal civ 1. boring.

I'm sure there are other console games I haven't spent much time on due to lack of fun.

                    Civ3 - A great disappontment

MoO3, Galactic Civilizations - See comment on Ascendancy

Transport Tycoon Deluxe - No advance on the original Transport Tycoon

                              Er, Monopoly for Gameboy.
Medal of Honor for PSOne - why did I buy this? I don't ever like shooters, and they misspelled Honour!
My boxed copy of ToT from eBay in immaculate condition (except for the lack of game disc).
Er, Civ 2 for PSOne. Cue visit to CFC, opening the scenario forum then buying laptop and another three (all right, 4 - see above) copies of the game, and preventing me from ever being a well-adjusted, normal human being.

That jogged my memory. I loved Myst, and so did my wife. So when Riven came out, we bought it -- probably the only game I ever bought for myself at ful price -- and we were very disappointed. I actually don't regret buying Riven, but I sure regret not waiting until it had been marked down.
