Just checked out the link. It's an interesting idea but it won't work. There will be an ever increasing demand on CPU, RAM, and storage until something breaks (which won't take long...). It is interesting to note that after all the time spent so far the only thing there is to show for it are some screen shots and videos (and he seems to have a fascination for ringed planets). I'd like to see something MOO-like on this scale but it will never happen.

      Vince, it will happen.

Quantum computers will change the face of gaming.

And when they come, the guy making this game, will be ready.

              Not likely.

I may still try it out of morbid curiousity. Just finish something concrete soon.

I agree with others. I think it is meant more as a technology demonstrator than an actual game. it is kinda like the prototypes that the US air force builds to test a new technology but the prototype is never actually mass produced for actual combat.

It can show off what we can do with computers and I would not be surprised if it were modified for use in astrophysics research or something. For example, I bet you could modify the program to model the evolution of galaxies really nicely.

It certainly has a wow factor.
'There is a greater darkness than the one we fight. It is the darkness of the soul that has lost its way. The war we fight is not against powers and principalities, it is against chaos and despair. Greater than the death of flesh is the death of hope, the death of dreams. Against this peril we can never surrender. The future is all around us, waiting, in moments of transition, to be born in moments of revelation. No one knows the shape of that future or where it will take us. We know only that it is always born in pain.'"

One could always find an old copy of Microsoft Space Simulator.

This was posted in the alt.fan.elite newsgroup today:

Hi guys, Flavien is doing some great work on his Infinity game. The project
is pretty much attempting to make Frontier as a MMOG, with some very nice
                            graphics thrown in.

He's prototyping the combat engine and netcode at the moment and a few
people (about 80 at one point I think) met up in IRC on Sunday to help with
the test. I was one of the lucky ones who's PC didn't crash (very early
prototype) and I had the chance to get in and experience what combat will be
like in the game. It was almost exactly like combat in Frontier, in fact
I'd say slight better than Frontier combat, and of course fighting against
other players made it that much better as well.

I've written a short review of the combat prototype which is on the Infinity
                            forums:

That was the very first test so things will be being tweaked and improved
                            all of the time.

If you want to find out more about the game visit http://fl-tw.com
At least they are still working on it... I mean, the last news updates on Elite 4 on the Frontier Development site were at the end of the last century

But Elite 3 is still fun to play
Within weeks they'll be re-opening the shipyards
And notifying the next of kin
                            Once again...
