Oh, I've just remembered that the tiles weren't hexes.

Well when i say not so hexey i mean not in the traditional SSI (or even SPI if you're my age) wargame way but they're still there.

Of course i could always be using a different meaning of the work hex as well

The original Heroes of Might and Magic? Slightly too late I suppose but worth a try.

Not HOMM but i always thought they had similar elements ( but that could just be me).

Those elements being turned based combat, spells and fantasy creatures as well as tactical and strategy maps.

I think I know this one, but can't remember the name. I played it a few years ago, but did not like it.

I'm going with fantasy empires even though it is ssi, and I know that is not it.
