i had to go look up what FTW meant("For The Win"). And now i know what it means i will say that i thought that Solar plants lost much of their efficency as you got further from the sun? So good close to middle distance, bad from the outer reaches of the system?
Still i would be happy if that wasn't the case, as Fussion power is very expensive.

Originally posted by Skanky Burns Temperature affects two things: deuterium production rate and solar sats production. The colder it is, the more deuterium is produced. The hotter it is, the more energy the sats produce. The reason I like cold planets so much is that sats are extremely expensive for the power they provide and extremely vulnerable to any attack whatsoever. Not only are solar plants cheaper per energy produced (up to a certain high level) but they produce the same amount of energy regardless of distance from the sun.
I'm building a wagon! On some other part of the internets, obviously (but not that other site).
Yeah, I've got a fusion plant, but it's turned off pretty much all of the time. My sats are only at 40%, because I'm only really interested in mining crystal and deuterium - all my metal comes from raiding.
I've even managed to get 0 on my energy surplus/deficit for the first time in ages. Small things make me chuffed, at least until I can start building cruisers. I sent my first large cargo out today, so things are definitely picking up.
I have my sats and solar plants at 100% always. Sure, any excess energy is still wasted, but at least if I build another building I won't need to remember to turn them back up again. I've got fusion level 2 but it is also always off. I only run it temporarily to make up for small shortfalls.

@ Skanky,
Thanks for the trouble of quoteing yourself - these threads have exploded, so the few days i'm away i lose a lot of whats been talked about. cheers for your help in getting my first colony of the ground
I think i like the idea of a cold crystal+deutronium producing planet - maybe a place criminals from my society can be sent for some corrective labour

very bad indeed, or just a faster expanding civ than my own

my colony ship is nearly ready, going to set up a cold deut planet in my system.
Well I'm currently looting the hell out of a planet in galaxy one that I found by mistake.
It takes ages to get there and back, but is definitely worth it!
My best one so far is that I sent my fleet to somewhere by mistake...typo in the send screen, but still managed to hit a defenseless target and fill the cargo holds up.
Last nights uni 3 hauls:

One of your fleets (Small Cargo Ship:3 Large Cargo Ship:1 Heavy Fighter:2 ) returns from 1:290:10 to ponderosa1 [1:225:6] . The fleet delivers 12290 metal, 15950 crystal and 11959 deuterium

Yeah, found someones Det pump.
Currently researching level 3 hyperspace engine.
Hyperspace Engine (Level 2 )
Hyperspace engines actually allow to enter hyperspace through a hyperspace window in order to massively shorten traveltime. Hyperspace is an alternative space with more then 3 dimensions.
Requires: Metal:40.000 Crystal:80.000 Deuterium:24.000 Energy:0
Production time: 15h 00m 00s
15 hours with a level 7 research lab.
I'll post the stats for the level 4 upgrade (and for battleships) in about three hours when this one is done.
I've also found that the galaxy next to yours is really not that far away for raiding purposes. Equivalent to about 25-30 systems away.
We're sorry, the voices in my head are not available at this time. Please try back again soon.

The stats for resources are always double the previous one. I'm not sure about the time though, because that depends on what level of lab you have.
