Anyone remembers it? It was the space combat equivalent of Civilization, top of the bill graphics combined with a non-linear story line. Truly epic games.
Anyhow, I was checking what happened to the series and came across this wiki-page: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wing_Co...computer_game)

Origin was acquired by Electronic Arts in 1992, and some point to this occurrence as the end of true greatness in the Wing Commander franchise.

Chris Roberts left the company and formed Digital Anvil in 1996.
Pretty sad it ended like that.

Still have the orginal WC complete with the blueprints* and all.

*Origin games tended to come with a lot of extras, a software marketing habit that sadly ended in the 90's.
Skeptics should forego any thought of convincing the unconvinced that we hold the torch of truth illuminating the darkness. A more modest, realistic, and achievable goal is to encourage the idea that one may be mistaken. Doubt is humbling and constructive; it leads to rational thought in weighing alternatives and fully reexamining options, and it opens unlimited vistas.

Wing Commander - my first experience of it was on my mates 486, and i was blown away by how addictive it was. I got it shortly after for my Amiga(1200), sadly it was a game that really needed the Mhz which the amiga just didnt have. Still i perservered with it, and got lots of fun(and frustration!) out of it. A true Classic

I saw a release of 40 (ish) classic arcade games the other day. Sounds up your alley.

It depends - if they are good classic games then maybe Still my midways classics(vol1) on xbox is a decent compilation(Joust/Marble madness/Rampage etc) and most were nearly as good as the origonals.

Still I'd like an xbox compilation of Wing Commander(+sequels?)/Xwing/Mechwarrior etc

This was the first PC game that I bought an expensive joystick to play with. I think it was a Wico with an extra button at the top of the stick.....black body, red stick, sexy and hi-tech back then.
Privateer 2: The Darkening....be-yoo-tiful. Loved going to Bex to go get beer.
Though I replayed WC One recently and felt it was boring and wondered what I saw in it. Maybe the future has spoiled me.
.......shhhhhh......I'm lurking.......proud to have been stuck at settler for six years.......
