I've build 5/6 metal, 4 Crystal and 2/3 Deut before I did robotics IIRC.
Robotics do you little good, they waste the recources needed for your infrastructure though.

Same for your shipyard.

You'll need lots of D for research. (2400 for 2x combustion and 1x Energy)
add 400M/200C/100D for the shipyard.

Don't worry about defenses. Just spend what you have. If you reaally can't do without defeses, build a fighter early.

I decided what the hell, I have plenty of deuterium I can use to fuel ships, so I'm building a small cargo next (once I've got 2000 and 2000) to start raiding some of these nice, undefended, planets that Hueij is kindly scouting for us. Then it's back to the serious business of researching for heavy fighters, and taking some defended planets. And espionage, of course. I note that the Intergalactic Research Facility will be required to start jointly researching techs, but it didn't mention whether you can share them.

Damn,

I've scanned 10 solSys in Uni 9, and not one of them has an inactive...

Worse, 90% is green, which probably means I can't attack them.

Now, the question is:
- spend another 100 D on scanning for (i)'s
- raid one with a fighter, if lucky follow up with cargo (possibly too late by then, defenses will be build
- sit tight and wait until I have three probes so I can see the planet's defences (which will take a lot more time)

Damn! I've just calculated that I won't have the resources for a small cargo ready until well after I go to bed.
I don't like leaving my base with lots of free resources when I'm away, but there isn't anything I can build that will keep them tied down until lunchtime tomorrow. 15 hours!
Oh well, I just have to hope that my missile battery and 2 lasers put people off visiting.
