me?? not my bag baby - i like the cold hard despair of reality, kind of

Anyway i have a confesion to make ref my 'cheating' in FM2005(the selling a worthless player to chelsea for millions trick).
Well after guiding the rich but unattractive prospect that is Newport Co from Conference South to the heady hieghts of league two football, I'm now with another club.

Swansea gave me a call and i couldn't turn it down for a variety of reasons, even though i was very happy with the direction Newport was going in and the type of football we were begining to create.

Still i'm now Swansea's manager - lying bottom of division 1!( the complete opposite from reality) with more than a few problems to try to sort out. I've only got 500,000 in transfer money.
So ok i cheated with Newport, but am now in an honest to goodness non cheat set up mode. Still it will be easier to bring the quality players into Swansea compared to Newport, so it sort of balances out

Until i get my new PC i guess i'll be playing FM2005, while others get stuck into FM2006(which is sounding like a good game).

Sell the crap Swansea players to Newport

Why cant you play 2006 either? I havent seen the requirements but i assume theyre pretty much identical to 05?

sadly it requires a 1000 mhz machine - i'm still just over half that(but not complaining ).
And i'm doing a version of what you suggested. I'm trying to buy the key players i've developed at Newport(about 4 of them) that would improve the swansea team at present. Still its a cool game and its got lots of leg on it for me yet. Still as soon as i'm able to run FM2006 i'll get it - i'm very keen to support decent pc games.

well my swansea certainly has a few, unlike the real swans that are doing great this last few seasons

The home of Swansea City on BBC Sport online. Includes the latest news stories, results, fixtures, video and audio.

the boys are doing great. Sadly i dont appear to have a Lee Trundle equivelant in my swansea(i randomised names to make things harder too), although i got the bare bones of a good team.
I may have to take the fall into division two and bounce back - if i dont get sacked! I guess they hired me halfway through the season to try and get us of the bottom.

edit: oh and the training set up was pretty bad compared to what i had going at Newport, not enough decent coaches either - still i've fixed that bit, its upto the team to respond now if they want to get out of the bottom. I'll help them where i can, try to add some depth to the squad with the resources left to me, but the white circles have got to score the goals

It will be interesting to see what happens to Newport - i've already seen they have put up about nine players for sale(i was running a full reserve team too - which they dont seem to want to do now).

See its a great game - lots to it

Sounds like a decent game, although id struggle with my conscience starting like that, but at least it sounds like youre atoning for your sins now.

Also at least with the wait the patching process of 2006 is likely to be over once you get around to it. I havent tried the demo yet, still pretty busy with PES5 and this small game Civ4.

Well he obviously can't anyway, which is why he's playing FM2005. "Just see if I can bag the Manager of the Month award this time round....."

well yes i DO feel a little guilty about it thanks
But Newport were one of the lowest ranking Conference South sides - and the only welsh team in the lowest league available for me to play. So i thought they could do with a benifactor.
Still as it turned out, the money didn't help me that much - at the end of the day Newport has only got a 4000 capacity ground, and getting players to join isnt easy(especialy players that improve your squad) - even with the millions to back you up.

Civ4 will be my after Xmas present FM2005 will keep me busy untill then i expect.

Well with the game name randomisation on - not even close that i can tell. I got a 35 year old vetren striker called Darren Powel and a younger welsh player, Jason Bowen, who might be Lee Trundle(except he's welsh and Lee is a scouser), about the same age, but his stats dont match what i would imagine Lee Trundles would be in the game - so not sure really?

I can see my chances of getting sympathy around here is about the same as me getting swansea out of relagation trouble
Yes i feel bad, yes i want to be forgiven for cheating in such a fine and engrossing game, yes i feel i'm attoning for my sin

In my two full seasons, I've only won it 4 times so it is a hard task for sure.

                    UPDATE:

well swansea have recorded a draw(in the league) and a victory(FA Cup) so far under my stewardship and moral has started to climb, still the cup win was against middle of the table Morcambe in the division below me, and it was a hard fought 2-1 victory. Its going to be a hard half season to keep the swans in league one i think

well i could live with that - its the the others that saden me. All the coaches that have been doing an excellent job behind the scenes to get Newport to where they are.
The commitment by the players that everyone else expected to wallow in Conference south forever.
All the players i had brought in to run a full reserves squad to put pressure to succeed on the firstteam players(if a Newport player hadn't acheived a '7' rating by half time - on came the sub). 9 of those guys are now without a club, after being involved in a very positive side.
Those are the people i worry i might have cheated

Still swansea have now climbed two places and are 22nd in league one - a few more wins and i think we can make it. Then begins the hard task of trying to build the potential of the team and try to compete with the Chelseas and Man U's of the football world

Yeah and some of their best players too

[OT].....Are people finding lots of probs with Civ4? I've heard our forums here are full of unhappy folks
What i saw of it on Snotty's pc seemed to be working ok?
I guess i can sit back and happily play FM2005 - by the time i get Civ4 it should be patched to full goodness.....[/OT]

Its nice that atleast with Swansea i have a nice club logo - Newport had none. In real life the swans are kicking butt in league one and cup compititions - crazy!

Its better than any drug addiction - i keep coming back for more

Even though im the proud owner of a shinny new FM2006, i am still playing FM2005 due to computer power issues.

                                Tactics:

I'm wondering if the type of tactics you choose to use in the game are some kind of reflection on ones self? The reason being i always seem to use the same kind of tactics for Football management games(starting on SWOS back in the amiga days).
4-4-2 with attacking wing play in my case. Defensive at the back and maybe in the middle when needed.

Or maybe you subconsciously fit your team around this percieved strategy. I do change the formation sometimes depending on the team i'm facing(5-3-2 or 4-5-1 for defending, sometimes 4-2-4 when i'm feeling very confident)

Still i seem to be most comfortable with 4-4-2. Maybe its a culture thing? as 4-4-2 is the most common format for uk based football teams?

Also it seems to work best for me, but i'm thinking this has to be in part a physcological thing.

I've survived my first end of season in charge of swansea, managing to pull them from the bottom of Div1 to mid table.

I cant spend like i could at Newport(who finished 5th in div2, and didnt go up), but i've been given £850,000 to buy some players if need be.

The rise in quality and expense of players between Div1 and the Championship is quite extreme. I think i'll be in Div1 for a few seasons if i dont get fired first!
