  • Bah, we have the ultimate Apolyton-themed guild name on Argent Dawn:

    Lux Musae

As best as we could figure, that's something close to "Light of (the) Banana" (Musa being banana) or, perhaps, "Light Bananas".

        • Verto

Apologies for bugging out last night. Glac was trying to get Arb to help, and he didn't know that if you leave a party, you get ported out of the instance. I would have stayed if he had known this.

As for what went on afterwards. That's not good. I'm going to take a break from instance runs for a while. We were going pretty well up until that and I think I need a cooldown.

No problem at all, and certainly no hard feelings whatsoever.

Cool. Things were going quite well up until then. I'm getting a bit better I think. I still am not comfortable being a mage.

                • No. Just a misunderstanding that fubared an instance run.

Verto and his friend are a bit like Laurel and Hardy too. It's great fun.

                    • You see, Verto got a little tired of going to the Gnomergan and not getting through, so i decided to go back in to the dreadful place in order to help him through it, considering i had already gone in and knew what to do, but we had a noobie mage, NOT Agathon, although his skills are dreadful :P, that insisted on AoE'ng the damn sheeped Dwarves, so we ended up dying numerous times, Verto and I got into a heated convo, i was un aware of the situation with leaving the group in an instance so ag dropped like a bad habit, amrun kicked me out of the group, so with 1 minute left, i decided to attempt to aggro every mob in sight, and bring them back to Verto for a little Playtime, which i never saw happen because right as i got back to him with all of the mobs, i got booted out perfect timing if you ask me, was all in good fun, yet verto and i are on good terms again, now that he has finally finished gnomer, he can live again, and the game now starts to open up. GO VERTO!

                      • there is no need to finish Gnomer...

I know that I dropped it like a bad habbit without all quests completed

You think that was bad. You should have been on the DM run I just did. What was worse was that the party was full of really nice people: however 3 of them were simply incompetent (I wasn't perfect, I caused one wipe - at that dumb bit with the bridge where it is hard to see what you are shooting at) and have no idea of how to play their class.

I have a hunter. He's got pretty reasonable gear, certainly enough for DM. I'm new to the class, but know what I am supposed to do (pull, stand off and shoot and occasionally help the tank melee, or get my pet to do so. I know that my pet is supposed to be set to passive in instances) and what I am not supposed to do (anything other than the former other than using track humanoids). I know the DM reasonably well.

So the party leader is a mage. He insists on being the puller... with ****ing Arcane Missiles!!!

WTF!!! I have a mage, and I would not be the puller unless there was no other choice, and I certainly would not use arcane missiles because you can't move when firing them (I'd use Frostbolt or [rarely] Fireball) and run as soon as it went off.

If that wasn't bad enough, he insisted on pulling them when we were standing too close to the other mobs. The result was that he was getting creamed. What sort of person thinks that they can stand up in close combat to Elite mobs wearing the equivalent of a dressing gown? Anyway, I switched on growl and had my pet taunt and melee the mobs that he pulled (It's a cat, and isn't really supposed to tank, but there wasn't much alternative). It was a strong party level-wise, so he only died a couple of times from doing that.

After a wipe at the goblins I told him he was not to pull mobs any more. For the most part he didn't. However, he insisted on solely using Blizzard when we were meleeing single mobs.

WTF? Not only can this attract other mobs in close proximity (esp in the end section of the DM), but it is a waste of mana DPS wise and the graphics get in the way so that no-one else can see what they are doing. I suppose he thought it looked cool. At the end he did manage to keep his mob sheeped, so I suppose he wasn't completely bloody useless.

So if a mage is a bad puller... what about a rogue? WTF? Rogues are pretty frail and have a simple one shot missile attack. Why would anyone pull a mob with a rogue's ranged attack when a hunter can shoot it with concussive shot and the mage and hunter can lay some serious hurt on it before it wanders into a fire or frost trap, at which point everyone can pile onto it?

So I'm setting traps and mark the mob. Does everyone hang back so that the mob can be pulled into a safe area and over the trap? No.

The rogue pulls from the side or in front of the trap half the time. WTF?!?!?!!

Why indeed? These people weren't noobs either, which made it even worse.

Neither of the two rogues used stealth to any great effect. I'm not sure if they had sap, but I wish they'd used it. The other rogue was OK as a fighter, but left inexplicably right before the end, so we didn't have enough people to kill VC.

And the others didn't seem to have any water. WTF? I went out and caught 15 fish before the instance (pet food), made a stack of bandages and and bought a stack of milk. What kind of person goes into an instance without food and water? What kind of mage doesn't conjure up a load and distribute it?

I still can't believe this... that is the worst played mage I've ever seen.... but they were lovely people, so I kept my mouth shut...

                            • Well, Mages can pull with Sheep, but that's about it. Even as a hunter, I generally let the warrior pull unless its a difficult pull because frankly it's just quicker. I'm not sure who the 4th person in your group was....I'd presume there would be a healer, but then that'd leave out the tank.

Anyway, my guild pretty much just farms DM every now and then for the books. There is a pretty good leather helm there you should pick up as a hunter for MC, btw. You'd pretty much have to do it without rogues though, since rogues won't be allowed to go to MC without lots of fire resist since otherwise they are a mana sponge.

                              • Why are there so many Warrior Quests?

Ive had 2 as a paladin, yet only did 1 because the weapon from the second one is not worth the time, nor the effort. Yet I have a warrior friend, not verto, who seems to have a warrior quest at every freaking level, maybe it is just me, but it is something i noticed.

                                Priests and Warlocks = RIGGED.

It's so ridiculous any team with 2 priests or 2 warlocks in a wsg game just own... 1 warlock can practically take 2 people at once, and priests you can never hit them... that shield spell needs to be toned down a bit, maybe to 50 % damage, or something... but they are nice to have in a party, especially in instances.

BTW agathon, if you want me to take your hunter through dm, lemme know... i hear the gold in dm is good.
