  • Jade Umpire!!!!11!!!!!!!!!1

The typos is intentional to get our attention.

I am uber close o beating it right now with my Open Palm (Light side for those of you unfamiliar)
and about halfway with my closed fist (dark side) guy.

I want to create a chi based girl, becasue my other two have been chi based dudes.

I ma stuck trying to find out what the coolest thing is to do in Lord Lao's Furnace.

    Any ideas? Other comments? etc.?

I rented it a while ago. A fun game. But I don't see the point of buying it, given that its about 20 hours long. And I might ad that after having played all these Bioware games, I had a been-there-done-that feeling.

Yeah this one was quite similar to KOTOR and has made me apprehensive about buying KOTOR 2.

The biggest problems are the lack of sidequests, and the lack of areas to explore. They are both a bit related. Parts of it are just annoying to have to run around in. My cure for the annoying waste of time running from one end of the level to the other is to use focus and book it.

The game is quite easy to 100% it just takes a lot of simple work.

The fighting engine is better than KOTOR 2 in that you are more in control. It is more Real Time based, and doesn't have your attacks stacked, and allows for blocking and dodging.

The game was very addicting at first but is beginning to lose its luster on my third trip through the world.

There is pretty much good and evil paths, ther is the option of going your own way but it always seems to be a fraction as fun as the original two trips.

The main frustruation is that the game stops short of itself, and makes you feel cheated. There are many many fighting styles in the game but not enough time to master more than two. You could go through the game again and try to master different fighting styles but it obviously gets tearfully repetitive, and worst of all BORING.

Jade Empire feels like it was abandoned early and rushed through production.

If they had given it more time and planning they could have had a really exceptional and sensational game that would have been a step up.

There are only two areas to explore. Three if you count the original town of Two Rivers, but that is more of a tutorial stage and you can't go back to it after a while anyways.

The game almsot makes a mockery of itself when you ask Kang to fly you somewhere and there is only one option for a place to fly, yet you still have to move the cursor over to select the town in question.

The mini games are ok, but don't really offer much. I preferred the shooting from KOTOR, to the classic gaming that they offerh here. Again, it makes the game feel rushed.

      overall a 4 out of 5

Not deserving of the 49$ price tag.

I have this game and I think its good. Beat it first with Open Palm and again on Closed Fist.

Shoot, I didn't even know about Lord Lao's furnace until my Closed Fist guy wised up. It's kind of hard at first, but you gotta get the configurations.

I think theres Rat, Ox, Horse, Rabbit, and a few more. Lord Lao rules.

I like the game because I actually believe in some of the philosophies and metaphysical ideology in the game. Yeah, it does have that been-there-done-that feeling, but just experiencing it and going through it still kicks booty.

I just like it cause it reminds me of those old skool kungfu movies out there. I like those. The music is good too.

I hope there are more goodies when you beat the game on both Open Palm and Closed Fist...

Yeah, game seems a bit rushed. Your right in that it's like only two main area's with little "side area's"

          Tiens Landing.

          Imperial City.

I didn't like the endings, I felt they were extreme copouts. But looking at all the variables at the end, I think I can understand why they did it that way, still I felt cheated.

I really didn't like the lack of emotion on the characters. If my guy is a baddie, I want him to frown! Or do that evil-grin thing!

I too feel that the game stopped short of itself and if more possibilites were explored, it would have been a definite shoe-in for Game of the Year. I'd also give it a 4 out of 5.

            ?????
            Could you explain?

All I've gotten from Lord Lao's furnace, is a couple of different demons, some ghosts, a puff of smoke, ghosts, gender change, and nothing.

              Lol,

Ok ok. The configurations, you gotta actually read them to get the intended outcome, baby.

It took me a while and I saw monkeys as well as fought rat demons/horse demons/etc. But if you read the config. right, you get a good reward.

If you need more help, I'll try and help you out...but finding it out yourself about Lord Lao and his Furnace kicks a**.

                Ok, thanks.

I will ring if I grow tired.

I was on the official Jade Umpire forums, and the fanboys there calculated nearly 301 different combinations so I was feeling a bit lost.

                  Holy Crap!!!

But just so you know there are

                  Whirling Cogs
                  Conductor
                  Clapper Chimney
                  Water Wheel
(Boiler Thing...name escapes me)...its the machine in the middle.

It took me forever to realize there was 5 machines instead of 4. Maybe that's why your configurations are coming out like mine were initially. Watch out though, cause if you really screw around with the furnace sometimes an elephant demon pops out.

That's usually when I stopped messing with the machine...

I like fighting elephant demons. They're afun challenge.

The coolest elephant demon is the one who guards the spirit of the forest. The whole fight is really hard, and I always leave him for last. Its really hard becasue I'm generally low on health and chi, and have to use a half depleted focus bar to take him out.

Asher...you're fricken EVIL did I not just say I don't have the Limited Ed. and WISHED I bought it? Bastid.

Jade Empire is good if you like Kung Fu movies, like "The Box" like Ash does, and like BioWare products...they put a lot of thought into their games.

                            Evil, Asher.....that's just wrong dude.

I think that JE2 will be a better game, simply because it'll probably allow more exploration and fully fleshed stories (instead of 'stopping short'). I liked reading all the scrolls and stuff about Chinese mythology. It was great fun.

The story was top notch, IMO, and a very interesting game world. I'm not sure if I liked it or KOTOR2 better. Jade Empire won on story (if simply for KOTOR2's ending), but I like the KOTOR fighting better, and the choices/options you have in KOTOR2 are better.

Oh, and the best part is the cameo by John Cleese! LOL!
