I read the other day that cardboard ingestion can cause loss of orientation and a general lack of awareness of the passing of time.

        • And here's a new video:

I have no idea if it shows anything interesting, as I don't have quicktime (those who invented quicktime should be ashamed of themself, as it's just... stupid)

          • Well, IGN is being really slow, and it's going to take me another 30 mins to download the video, so I can't say for sure, but there is what may be the same video on Gamespot:

GameSpot is the world's largest source for PS4, Xbox One, PS3, Xbox 360, Wii U, PS Vita, Wii PC, 3DS, PSP, DS, video game news, reviews, previews, trailers, walkthroughs, and more.

Both this year's trailer and gameplay video are new to me.

            • OK, so IGN sped up and I just got the video. It is similar to Gamespot's, but the sound is much better - you can actually hear what Will Wright is saying.

Strangely the screenshots section of IGN doesn't look like it has the updates, so I can take some screen-caps from the video if people without Quicktime want. (Or they can, y'know, get quicktime. )

              • Well, if it's similar to the one at Gamespot, there's not really much point in posting screenshots from it, but thanks anyway

LOL! That's just the START of the problems, actually. I've even stopped railing against the gaming industry as result of being weakened by cardboard ingestion. I'll probably be dead by the end of the week.

Yes, it's exactly the same demo, except for some reason on gamespot they cut out a bit in the middle. In the gamespot video, after Will Wright shows the machine editor thing and says he is going to skip to the galaxy level of the game, they immediately cut to the UFO attacking a city.

In the IGN video, there's a whole other chunk of stuff there. He first shows how a UFO is built, and everybody on the home planet is all happy. He then flies around the home planet a little bit, abducting and scanning the local unintelligent life forms.

He then goes to another planet in the same solar system, and encounters some local life forms, dumps out one of the herbivores he abducted from the home planet to see what happens, and it gets immediately eaten.

He then flies off into space and mucks around a little bit, showing a black hole (which can apparently be used as a 'wormhole' for faster connections between the distant parts of the galaxy), and also showing off the interface to the creature database. Basically, all the life forms you have scanned or abducted are accessible here. You can either view them all at once, or categorized by the location where you found them (solar system->planet->animal). The interface basically looks like a deck of trading cards, with the pictures and characteristics of each animal on each card.

After he is done showing off the creature database, he goes off to another solar system. One planet is uninhabited, but he finds some sort of artifact there. He doesn't say precisely what this one is useful for, but mentions there is a bunch of them in the game and they provide bonuses to the UFO, such as stealth.

Finally, he goes off to another planet in the same system (which actually is a moon of a gas giant) and finds intelligent life on it. He hovers the UFO over the city and does some fireworks, which the local populace loves - they cheer at the UFO and eventually start worshipping it as a god. He then tries to abduct one of the little guys in broad daylight - that is seen as a hostile action, and the city defenses open fire. And that's where the gamespot video resumes.

                        • I just noticed that Gamespy has the same video, in higher quality (the full version, so now I have seen what you just described):

Much better quality than the other one

Yup, that's the same demo as IGN's video, and about the same quality, too - better than Gamespot's.

But why did Gamespot cut out that part, there was lots of interesting stuff they cut out

                              • They could have had problems with the camera or the guy couldn't hold it any longer and had to walk out for a few. Any way, it would have been nice of them to put it down in the video description that they omitted a chunk in the middle.
