Call To Power 2 Cradle 3+ mod in progress: https://apolyton.net/forum/other-games/call-to-power-2/ctp2-creation/9437883-making-cradle-3-fully-compatible-with-the-apolyton-edition
Arcanum, like Fallout, gives you a summary of some of your actions and their impact at the end. SOmething to bear in mind if you're role playing. The approach you take can have an impact on the town and the results of my character's actions was certainly not what he would have intended for the town.
Overall it was a good game. I wouldn't call it a great game. But it's good enough to play. I recommend it.
I played a super strong melee type, and the game was no challenge whatsoever. I smashed everything in my path.
I just started a new game a couple of days ago with a tech/thief type. And I must say, I suck . The game just isn't real balanced for tech types. I doubt I'll finish this second game. I know I only have a revolver. But my melee type with a crappy sword was doing much more damage at the same level. Even when I hit, I do very little damage.
I kind of cheated on this second game, and made a long dangerous journey to the town on the east coast (now I can't think of the name- ashbury or something) to get the dog (worthless mutt). I found him in my first game. But my dog does most of the damage and killing, so I get very little experience from kills. I can't use my gun all the time because bullets are expensive, and I need to conserve. They do recommend you fall back on melee skills, but I don't want to do that.
It would be nice if there was some balancing mods. The tech side should be just as powerful as the melee or magic sides. As it said during the wars that the guys armed with rifles pushed back the (damn, now I can't remember the name of these knights- dragon knights or something).
and I like the summary at the end, but that seemed a little buggy on my computer. I could see the screen flash, and it skipped over like every other one. If I reload and finish the game again, I'll get different messages at the end about different towns/events. And if I reload again, it's different again. Weird. After 2 reloads, I think I got most of them though. So I know how things turned out.
It would be nice if there was some balancing mods.
There are. You should check terra arcanum (google for the link, I'm too lazy to look it up). I remember one firearms mod.
Since this thread was started, I restarted the game with a dwarven meleer and then a tech talker with high charisma - guns can kill neatly, but having a half ogre and some other muscle around do help. It's quite fun to have fights which are actually challenges.

I agree that they're unbalanced but what i did like about being a tech was making stuff from all the rubbish i found. Wandering around the bins in the first big city (a while since i've played) provided me with molotovs, bullets and basic weapons to sell but only once i'd got the skills which took a while. Further into the game the uber weapons felt underpowered or far too slow.
if I do resume this game, I'll probably try to narrow my focus down some more. I did some calculations, and I should be able to max all my stuff I want to with 64 skill points, but it's slow going in the beginning. I may need to max some skills out quickly.
and I didn't take a train from Tarant. I always forget about those trains. I prefer to save the gold . My first character was so tough, no encounter could even touch him after level 10 or so. Before level 10 grizzly bears used to give me trouble.
