I like the longer stories. Besides them being quite entertaining, clues don't stand out quite as much and it's fairer to the mafia. Shorter stories usually means the mafia is caught earlier.

Long stories are good, but they also make the game take much longer
Perhaps - but it's also partly because I sometimes am quite busy due to work ... I could throw something together quickly every day, but the odds are 48 hours will get a better story by far, long or short
I'll do faster ones once it gets smaller - 24 hours should be good by then. But I don't want to only write about some of the authors; i'd rather write a little about all of them. And I have to come up with red herrings and real clues too

Yes, the poor mod usually gets knocked off early or the mafia takes me out. It was a pleasant change to last till the end last game. I've been the mafia two times (maybe three), once I actually won (thanks to a couple of great red herring clues) , but the other times I was caught real early.
It wasn't only my red herrings that saved you, it was also your expert play. You killed early those who usually vote for you or start docpiles on you and when threatened by vovan you executed him in spite of the fact he accused you openly. Also you left two newbies alive in the last round. And waited to vote second off course.
Yeah, one of my finer games. But your fine story telling helped immensely. There must have been 30 clues pointing to me, but most were hidden quite well and everyone thought the rest (outright blatant ones) were to blatant to be true. That takes talent.
But, no reason to be saved this game. Just a poor mope and not the mafia. I always get dissapointed when the game starts and I haven't received a mafia notification.

Well, it doesn't matter if you abstain or not, as you didn't vote for someone who will win this round. That's the equivalent of an abstention as far as I'm concerned. Though you might earn the ire of that person in future votes, of course, but so is the risk of the game
I would like to require a vote, however (no technical abstention)... although you can just wait to vote until after the vote was decided
