Shields are AWESOME at the moment anyway.

They offer a 100% defence, no worries, cost ZERO BP and even do some damage to the attackers.

I mean what more do you WANT from a shield? It destroys the entire attacking fleet as they insanely, one after another, drive their ships into it disregarding the fates of the previous captains, after which the shield expands and captures all the attackers bases

Yes this would be very useful so that I can track back and see how many shields and spies Sandman, Paddy and Spaced have left if any. And of course my good friend Lord Nuclear.

Well, I can tell you that you don't have any specials left, though you may still have counter-spy devices left, anywhere from 0 to 2, that is a secret.

On the first turn, 8 people attacked, 7 built shields, and 3 built spies.
On the second turn, 9 people attacked, 4 built shields, 1 built a spy, and 1 raised a shield.

That's all I'll say for now, mostly because I gotta eat and study.

I think its arguable we should start with a shield, and maybe a spy, since the first turn lottery looks likely to continue.

Or return to build phase only on turn 1.

No attacking on Turn 1 (with ability to build a shield/spy) sounds good, while the start is slow, it does suck to be eliminated the first round.

Pre-builds are nice, but I think the mayhem arising from first turn attacks is better.

Being targetted first round and having absolutely nothing you can do about it is not fun nor is it sporting in the least. At least with a round of prebuilds, people will have a chance to survive the second round even if every other empire sends a fleet towards them.

Mayhem is good, but being powerless to stop this mayhem regardless of your actions is not good.
