If you're talking about some of the new maps I agree. They looked nice but they play like absolute toss, far too many places to hide, which encouraged VERY slow play.
I don't remember much of the game (how it was back then compared to now), but I remember that they killed the fun of the game, then I stopped playing...
I don't know about bunny-hopping, so that didn't concern me...

I wonder when was the lastest Quake release? Are any new Quake games in works?

Quake 3 is oooold, but there are still some tourneys/leagues and tonnes of players.

Quake 4 is planned with the Doom3 engine. It will undoubtedly rule all.

Yeah seems Quake is pretty popular which is a understatement, probably! Figured I should take a look. Perhaps I'll wait for Q4 .

How does it compare to Unreal? I only have Unreal Tournament, a friend gave me that one and it's nice for when I have like 30 minutes to kill.

How did they kill the fun for you then, exactly?

I don't really remember... I just know it did...

It was both something with the changing of rules and with the fact that it became more popular, which made more gamers play the game, which then again made it more about just "win win win" than "fun fun fun"
As I've mentioned many times before; I prefer fps games to be just fun, being able to do stupid things and don't hear complains about it, but actually see other people join the "stupid game"
These days it seems impossible... when I play the game against anyone I know who still play it, they would all just try to kick me out of the game when I do things that makes the game fun... and I'm not interested in joining some random server for that

I don't know what you're doing that makes the game fun for you but if no one is agreeing with you then perhaps it's not fun for the majority of other people? If you're getting kicked for doing 'stupid things' then your breaking rules, and you think people who don't break them too are only in it to 'win win win'?

I'm not talking about shooting allies or something like that... what I'm talking about is things like... well uhmmm... only use a certain weapon (all players has the same weapon, and may not use other weapons)... ok, this doesn't work that well in CS I guess (Don't remember which weapons exists), but this worked very well in games like Action Half Life, where all players should only use throwing knifes or something like that

Ok, I haven't been kicked (since I'm not playing CS), and I doubt I will (if I played it), but it's not fun if I'm the only one playing "that game", and I can't get others to do something that's not "in the spirit" of cs

                      Halo PC or Halo X-Box?

I haven't had any problem with either, though obviously the X-Box can't go on the web.

                      2. bugs, balance, maps, etc.

I've never seen any game-altering bugs. The pistol is somewhat unbalanced, but overall it's pretty good.

I've never played Halo but are you actually making the argument bad controls and slow movement is the equivalent to good controls and fast movement in regards to aiming difficulty?
It's an X-Box game that happens to have a PC port, so the controls aren't "worse" on the X-Box. It's just that there isn't a mouse - you use a normal console gamepad. Therefore, it is more difficult to aim.

Which proves the superiority of the PC control mechanism. Playing competitively on the console is like making the world's top golfers play with plastic clubs. Sure it's a level playing field, but it still sucks.

                            1. Yes, the netcode sucks.

                            2. There are no really annoying multiplayer bugs. People have taken the SP game apart and done all sorts of buggy stuff, though. The balance is extremely good between the weapons in SP, but that balance falls apart in MP. The Pistol, Shotgun, Sniper Rifle, and Rocket Launcher are far superior to the four second class weapons. (For the PC version, they added two more weapons, both of which are annoying and require no skill)
                            3. Doom isn't Quake either.

Do you like Halo a lot(maybe even a fanboy?) and not so much other FPS games?
It's still a good deal behind Half-life in SP, and behind a lot of games in MP because of the netcode and balancing issues.

Actually, Jaguar, I like the addition of the FRG, to an extent. It makes players more competitive against vehicles, especially hogs.

This is a fair assessment. But if you loved golf and oculd only play it with a plastic club, you'd probably play it with a plastic club.

And I have no clue what the hell I'm talking about anymore with this weird analogy.
