I think that opinion in the United States is decidedly different from the rest of the world because we have a free press -- by free, I mean a virgorously presented right wing point of view on the air and available to all.- Ned

        • No word that any of Geomodder, Skanky or Spaced have sent orders...are we waiting on them or is it up to Ljube to process the turn now?

(not that I am rushing anyone, I was slow to send in my orders.....just being curious)

                  • Turn 5 - Crumbling alliances

The two four way alliances from the last turn quickly broke up as expected over the issue what to do next.

Captain Kassiopeia Janeway wanted to proceed with her journey towards the alpha quadrant and could no longer commit her resources to any alliance. Skanky Burns of the Vidiians requested more of the Klingon DNA for further analysis and when his request was denied he refused to cooperate any more. The Kazon Ogla led by young Rizik III Jamski, having captured some planets decided it was time to assume a low profile and bowed out of the alliance.

This left only Kazon Nistrim and their First Maje Joncha Culluh eager to keep on attacking. He tried to persuade Captain Janeway to join him, but she stood firm. Eventually, when her fleet stumbled upon a Kazon Pommar patrol and was attacked, with her flagship Voyager damaged, she understood she needed to preserve her alliance with at least one Kazon sect if she hoped to pass through this part of the delta quadrant alive.

Captain Kassiopeia Janeway proposed an all out allied attack on Kazon Pommar positions in a bid to eliminate the powerful sect and First Maje Joncha Culluh in his unsatisfying lust for power accepted the plan enthusiastically. Captain Janeway also sent Mr. Neelix on an intelligence gathering mission to assess Theben’s strengths and weaknesses.

When Mr. Neelix didn’t return, she wanted to call off the assault, but Joncha convinced her to press on. She issued the orders to attack, but at that moment her main command computers malfunctioned and the orders never reached her fleet. She learned later that Mr. Neelix was captured by a Pralor AU patrol and that all Voyager security codes were squeezed out of him under torture by SC himself. The Pralor AUs used these codes to disable Voyager’s command and control computers.

Joncha continued the attack alone, but ran into a shield and lost his torpedo battleship. The blast also damaged one of his torpedo dreadnaughts.

                    *******

Joncha sent his entire fleet but ran into a shield. Will his fleet return home now? Not likely. The Pralor automated units led by SC that have suffered a terrible setback last turn are coming back in play as they captured Joncha’s 6 undefended bases. Joncha’s fleet remains baseless.

According to an agreement with Sparrowhawk, these bases are split between Spaced Cowboy and Sparrowhawk 3 each.

                    *******

And Pralor allies in the previous turn, Kazon Relora sect led by First Maje Haron Sparrowhawk also tried to catch off guard a member of the opposite alliance from the last turn. They attacked the Vidiians, but did that with a meagre force. Still they managed to hurt them a lot, probably because the Vidiians were so surprised by this attack that they failed to mount an organised response.

Battle No.1: Sparrowhawk attacks Skanky Burns
                    Sparrowhawk: 2LD, 2FD, 2TD, 4FB, OoB: FLF-TLT, close in, spread out
Skanky Burns: 5FB, 2TB, 5FD, 11TD, OoB: No order of battle received. Random order of battle: LFT-LFT

                    20F – 0L – Skanky Burns takes 20 hits
                    32L – 70F – Sparrowhawk takes 38 hits
                    40F – 25T – Skanky Burns takes 15 hits

Sparrowhawk loses 4 carrier battleships, one carrier dreadnaught and his last carrier dreadnaught is badly damaged.
Skanky Burns loses all five carrier battleships and one of his carrier dreadnaughts is damaged critically.
                    The battle continues.

                    16T – 0L – Skanky Burns takes 16 hits
                    32L – 40F – Sparrowhawk takes 8 hits
                    8T – 25T Sparrowhawk takes 17 hits

Skanky Burns successfully defends his bases. He loses 2 additional carrier dreadnaughts.
Sparrowhawk loses his last carrier dreadnaught and also loses two laser dreadnaughts and one of his torpedo dreadnaughts is damaged. He must withdraw.

                    *******

On the side note, the species 8472 also tried to get Kazon Nistrim bases, but when they arrived they found Pralor automated units there. Since species 8472 are very calculated and they haven’t planned on attacking the Pralor AUs, they left SC and his fleet alone and returned home.

                      • Summary of the previous turn

Joncha and Kassiopeia attacked Theben. Spaced Cowboy sent a spy against Kassiopeia and Theben raised shields, so only joncha suffered the 12 hit penalty. His home bases were captured by Spaced Cowboy, so joncha remained baseless.

Smiley also wanted to attack joncha, but found Spaced Cowboy there and called off the attack.

Also, Sparrowhawk attacked Skanky Burns, but lost the battle and most of his attacking fleet.

                            • A number of players asked the same question: Can baseless fleets be attacked?

Baseless players are just like any other player, except they have no bases, so there isn't really any logical reason to attack them. So, you can attack them, but if they attack, you'll be getting where they used to be and finding out they are gone. You can only make sure they stay where they are if you spy them.
