Sorry, but the single most annoying bug possible is the one that prevents you from installing the game in the first place.

    *cough* Millenia: Altered Destinies *cough*

Anything beyond that (re:formats your hard-drive) is not a bug but a virus.

Well it left Bumblefnck, Kentucky 'bout 6pm Saturday. I did free shipping, so later this week, perhaps the weekend.

        Pretty pitiful review on Gamespot.
All SuperPower 2 has going for it is an anything-can-happen atmosphere.

And what's the story with StarForce copy protection? I was strongly leaning toward getting this game, but now I'm not so sure. Maybe I'll just wait for Supreme Ruler 2010.

That review doesn't leave much room for this game to be any good. Let's see what our house specialists have to say about it.
Is God willing to prevent evil, but not able? Then he is not omnipotent. Is he able, but not willing? Then he is malevolent. Is he both able and willing? Then whence cometh evil? Is he neither able nor willing?

I was so hoping that SP1 or SP2 would provide a realistic geopolitical simulator but if the review is to believed, that is not likely to happen. Why in the world does the AI still do wacky stuff like having Germany invading Taiwain? I want countries to at least pretend to act like they do in real life.

Heck Middle East: Conflict Simulator is more realistic that SuperPower.

The war we fight is not against powers and principalities, it is against chaos and despair. Greater than the death of flesh is the death of hope, the death of dreams. Against this peril we can never surrender. The future is all around us, waiting, in moments of transition, to be born in moments of revelation. No one knows the shape of that future or where it will take us. We know only that it is always born in pain.'"

Even when the bullets aren't flying, strangeness abounds. We witnessed [....], the terrorist group Hizbullah winning national elections in Mauritius

Sounds a classic game of sorts.

                  Still Playing SP1

Picked up SP1 when it first game out -didnt care for it. But with patches 1.4 and mods this the game now has new life. Someone named Roko dug into the ai files and made new files -trained the EHE ai program to change the way ai acts. Some nations are at cold war stance and most hot spots are in the middle east . Alot more believeable ai. This happens with many games . Take Hearts of Iron the C.O.R.E mod took the game to its next level. A labor love for the game. So far the reviews on SP2 has not been good. Too many CTD,s its too unstable and odd actios by the ai.Like Finland declaring war on the US for no reason. For now its a wait and see if they can patch this game so it will work right.

It's been near 3 days and the box has only gotten as far as New Bumblefnck, KY...just outside Cincinnati, Ohio. It hasn't even left the state yet!

I played the demo. I have to admit that the demo dramatically improved my impressions of the game.

Overall, the game is a huge improvement over the first one. The graphics and interface are much better. The AI in the limited time I played seemed decent. The game also introduces some new things to control like internal laws. I feel like you can do a lot more to affect your country than you could in SP1. The tactical battles are much much better now than in SP1. Also, on the strategic level, wars are much better now as you can move your armies to seize provinces.

Having said all the positives, I do have some negative comments.

It seems like it is very easy to miss important events unless you pause the game every 5 seconds. You get so many messages or events that you basically need to pause the game to properly respond to each one. In the demo, after I invaded Ukraine, I was attacked by the US. I should have gotten a declaration of war message or something. Nope. The first time I knew something was up was when the battle report window came up (I lost the battle) and I noticed that the US flag was displayed next to the enemy army. So I paused the game, and switched the map display to show armies as flags and low and behold there were like 10 big US armies all over Ukraine kicking my butt!

You should not have to cycle tons of messages and events to find out that a major power declared war on you.

IIRC, SP1 was turn based. SP2 seems to have moved to a real-time format where you can pause when you need to check something or give orders. Frankly, I think turn-based was better.

Lastly, is their a way to prune the list of nations you are interested in? I hate to have to cycle through a list of every single nation on the face of the Earth every time I want to send a treaty or view a stat.
'There is a greater darkness than the one we fight. It is the darkness of the soul that has lost its way. The war we fight is not against powers and principalities, it is against chaos and despair. Greater than the death of flesh is the death of hope, the death of dreams. Damn the Annex Bug!!!

Anyway, currently playing as China. It's the 2080's and I've got 5000 100mt ICBM's at my disposal. No one wants to play with me, so I have to make my own fun. All techs are maxed out at 10 and I'm clobbering SE Asia with almost no losses (a soldier here, a tank there...those North Koreans are pretty robust). However, because of the Annex Bug I cannot fully absorb them or the game with crash to desktop, so every once in a while I have to mop up enemy forces that crop up. While the world is pissed off with me, like I said, none of them want to take me on. I hope patch 1.2 solves the bug; very annoying.

Perhaps I should have made it clearer: I do have v1.1 installed. GL claimed the annex bug was fixed in that patch, but MANY people, myself included here, report it was not.
