Your post could inspire a great deal of debate on what qualifies as a real game, but it I suspect the debate would quickly get off-topic.

To give a short response it seems quite clear that Hangman is a good example of a game (albeit a simple one). If Hangman is a simple game and the other Forum Games are more complex I think you have to conclude that the Forum Games are indeed real Games.

Name the Game gets my vote. It doesn't demand a great deal of input unlike some of the Forum Games, and it also provides a service - that of showing people snapshots of the history of computer gaming, often you get a graphical link and info on the game

I voted for Galactic Overlord, but Mafia is a really close second.

Gladiator 1st and foremost, with NW and Mafia coming in joint second.

One of these days I'll get around to playing GO and Society since they seem to appeal to strategists.

              a few points

              1. I would like to thank everyone for the FG tags.

              2. I think things work fine with them - I DO not support those who are still whining. I would have posted that in the AC thread, but i was away for awhile and that thread has been locked.

              3. I nonetheless forgive the original poster for posting my name in the poll.

That said, the best FG has to be Mornington Crescent, for sheer stylishness.

                The LotM option is second.

No offense intended, you were the first one to come to mind who I didn't think cared for Forum Games (and I think the FG tag is attributed to you...so I thought the LotM reference was appropriate).

As for Mornington Crescent, I suspect that one is before my time.

                  /me , "the original poster"

Note: By the way, I kinda meant it in jest the LotM of the Forums, as I think it is funny that your nickname initials include "ot" in them, and given that many of the non-forum game Other Game posters seem to think that Forum Games amount to off topic, I thought it was a funny reference....again, no offense intended

I wonder how rah would react to a little game of Mornington Crescent on the OG. Think of the +1s

MC was here before, and unlike many forum games you actually needed to put some effort in to get your +1. It died fairly quickly as these things do, though.

Would you care to elaborate on MC a bit more please

I think someone should make a list of all forum games, including those that died out.
