  • A true blue Commodore owner all the way. Although I know my way other homecomputers as well. Well, I now the various stories at least. The " dodgy memory expansion that would fell off at any time"-problem was well known at the time. Some people simply GLUED it to their ZX81 to prevent it falling off.
Skeptics should forego any thought of convincing the unconvinced that we hold the torch of truth illuminating the darkness. A more modest, realistic, and achievable goal is to encourage the idea that one may be mistaken. Doubt is humbling and constructive; it leads to rational thought in weighing alternatives and fully reexamining options, and it opens unlimited vistas.

        • well this wasn't technically a game as we've been used to guessing

But i'll give it to standup as he was first to describe the symptoms of the term i was looking for.

What kind of became a game for the ZX81+16k rampack programmer, and the term i was looking for was the infamous 'Rampack wobble', the game was trying to avoid it happening!

And all it took was a 'wobble' of the connection for you to loose all the data, it didnt actualy need to fall right off, simply pressing the keyboard in a way the rampack didnt like( ) was fatal - and there wasn't a special technique you could use apart from glueing it to the connector with superglue.

I can only say that you have to imagine typeing a few hundred lines of code into your pc with a long stick(it really wasn't easy using the Zx81s 'touch sensitive' keyboard!). And maybe you could loose it all buy poking with your stick in the wrong way!

And thus maybe the first cases of home computer rage was born?

          whats happened to duke?

            • ah.....but this was that undocumented area called the 'in between guess while duke remembers' game, and no-one scores any points for these

Like our un-written constitution, what we do in this situation isn't covered by our rules.........so i used it creatively this time to provide some other computer trivia
So shall we have some rules for these kind of situations in future?

*and i think there may only be a few years age difference between us - i'm quite a young old git *

Standup - its your go until the duke is back

                • Sadly i seem to be giving quite a few years to DrSpike if your profile is accurate. Can't be long before i start using the large font size and getting a craving for Werthers Originals

Ok coming back to the modern age..well circa early 1992 this game was described in one review as "meaningless title, nice parallax".
