Seriously, you are sooooo sour grapes about this whole thing.

Glad to see someone else sees it. Apoc hates console RPGs... to the extent he thinks KOTOR had a cliche story (wha?). He dismisses those who have positive things to say about those games and harps on certain facts while ignoring others... such as:

And it's about 40 hours max according to the review.

Did you even read the review? 40 hours max for the MAIN quest, but 50-100 if you do the side quests and explore. Jeez, selective reading.

And 80% from a magazine probably means 4/5 stars which is usually why a lot of great games get an 80% rating from certain magazines.

Molyneux is a forked tongue serpant and I hope someone draws and quarters him.

Why is he? He doesn't promise these hyped features, he just isn't tight lipped. He says we are trying X, Y, and Z and the magazines say this game is supposed to have X, Y, and Z when Molyneux was just testing them out to see if it could be done, and it easily could have been taken out by him later. Unlike others who release info only when they want to alert to promised features, Molyneux will talk freely and openly about what the design team is trying and what they HOPE will go in the game.

live by yhe hype - die by the hype

Unfortunetly this doomed Black and White, which was a very solid game if you went into it not expecting the world. I've talked to many people who played it expecting it to be the utter flop that so many people called the game, but being very pleasantly surprised.

(IGN also paid the game the ultimate compliment that with a few more sequal it could be the Zelda of the XBox)

      Zelda

... except Zelda isn't an RPG

It is actually considered on the borderline. But they meant Zelda in terms of the flagship fantasy title type of thing.

Zelda doesn't have any sort of experience-stuff at all, unless you count heart containers.

It's firmly just and adventure game.

That's true, but that's why I said it was borderline. There are plenty of action-adventure games which are called RPGs because they have some small experience thing... such as, say, Diablo.

I tend to think of the line between action-adventure games and RPGs to be very fuzzy these days.

Not really. One or two weapons may be upgraded once, (and you can carry more ammo for some), but that's it.

Anyone who thinks it isnt is blind. Still it was a good game and a good story, but Im a Star Wars fan so my opinion is highly biased.

and I quote... "Project Ego is going to be the greatest role-playing game of all time." -- Peter Molyneux

Yet it came out with reviews of "Great" and "Good" but no "BEST RPG OF ALL TIME!!!!!eleven!!!! ROXXORZ!!!!" or "Game of the year fo' shizzle!!"

Also for the amount of time put into the game the major complaints from the sites are all the same ones we hear about every RPGs, repetative NPC chatter, too simple, main storyline doesnt branch enough, but the music is GRRRRRRREAT!! Etc.

P.S. I havent played the game yet so my personal opinion will hopefully be one of joy and glee as I prance gayly about my living room in my underwear with a tummy full of Mountain Dew and a bladder about to burst .

Cite? It's nice to quote without cites, right? Everything I've seen says Molyneux ASKS IF Project Ego will be the greatest role-playing game of all time.

Hmm, let's compare. People love to bring B&W down because it was rubbish, not because they like to bash hyped games. WC3 still has well over a million active MP accounts over two years after it's release. How many of the many that bought B&W still play it I wonder?

Like me, I really never heard anything about it, (musta been living under a rock or something like that...) but now I have it and like it. BTW, my avatar is Beardy.

I disagree entirely. B&W was indeed a good game. One of the problems though is that it is primary a single player game. How many WC3 players play the single player mode anymore?

Well there's nothing wrong with making a good SP focused game. Being SP didn't make B&W get bashed, not being very good did. However, I'm intrigued as to why you liked it.

I brought up WC3 (even though it is predominantly played today as a MP game) because you said it didn't live up to the hype. It's easily one of the most successful games of the millenium.

No, not living up to the 'hype' got it bashed. People didn't realize it was going to basically be Populus crossed with RPG elements.

It was a very well done game. The interaction with your creature was incredible and trying to figure out the puzzles was very nicely done (I remember the one where you had to throw the guy and then quickly cast a spell where he landed to impress the next village people )

It didn't, did it? That doesn't mean that the masses didn't appreciate that it was more like a traditional RTS. Though what was promised was an 'RPS', as they refered to it.

Warcraft 3 isn't like a traditional RTS, otherwise it might've actually been good. As it is, it's just a crapy diablo/warcraft hybrid.
