I'm considering playing again as well. I'm not sure where I put my copy though. I still have all the codes written down on a piece of paper so I can get into the game.

Tanks are good for scouting the map, especially at the start of the game when your soldiers are all rookies with poor equipment.

I like using tanks as shields for my soldiers.

that's when I primarily use them. for scouting purposes. But I try to have my humans get all the kills. Only if they fail to get the kill, then I'll use my tank to get the kill (to avoid getting heavily damaged or destroyed)

Go to the place I mentioned in the beginning, they have the 1998, Windows compatible version there.

installed it, fired it up, but it didn't work with win2k

so i've found a development of a new version... same concept as in the ancient UFO/X-COM, but using quake2-engine, called "UFO: Alien Invasion"
there's a demo available at gamershell.com

the game isn't finished yet, unfortunatly... and not being backed by a game company, i'm afraid it never really will

There's a fan made patch that'll make it work, that is. I'm not sure if it works with any other version then the gold edition.
