  • beats me

and you'd have to build base facilities like alien containment. Using standard interceptors with stinger missiles seems impossible. And you have to use the Avenger to get to mars.

I see no reason to penalize yourself like that. Rifles just suck. autocannons are alright. I don't like the other weapon (heavy cannon I think it is). But I do like rocket launchers for my strong guys.

You could do that (even though I much rather use a Lightning for this ).

What if it doesn't feel like landing?

These are okay, though I think stun bombs will be available.

Yes, I know, but I was referring to this insane challenge Diss was talking about, whether or not stun bombs are considered basic weapons. Edit: Err, Kropotkin was talking about.

        • To clarify, the fellow I mentioned only followed the selfimposed handicap when he was on a mission. he did build alien containements and such. I can't really remember how he captured aliens, but if i remember correctly, you sometimes could get them without really trying. If it for example was unconscious when the mission ended. otherwise, he just used autocannons and such. He didn't really use rifles at all.

But perhaps, winning with just pistols and stunrods would be a real challange. Maybe even go Red Army-style and only have pistols and rifles for the first half of the soldiers in the avenger.

          • Yeah autocannons are really nifty weapons before alien tech.

I don't have time for these types of challenges, and don't know if I can resist trying.
I'm building a wagon! On some other part of the internets, obviously (but not that other site).

            • I'm gonna have to head to bed, but before I do I want to ask something. I've tried to get the "fanmade patch" for this game that allows it to work with XP, but for the life of me Site-Which-We-Do-Not-Name doesn't want to let me download. It just loads a useless page that mentions ufogold.zip and nothing more. I've tried both the regular option and the restrictive firewall option, yet neither bears fruit. Help me please.

Not sure if its already been said, but I got around the funding issue by manufacturing laser guns, and selling them .. I think it was laser pistols which were brought the most income ??? not sure now .. but you could make a fair bonus on it

                  • Overall, selling stuff is a good way of earning money that's easily missed by a newbie. As times go by your stock will fill up with the corpses of dead aliens and obsolete weapons. Sell those that you don't need (no need to have more than one, not 60, sectoid corpse afterall) for a good profit, and love a free market system that can't get enough.

                      • Selling crap is the foremost way to make money. You start to rake in ridiculous amounts of corpses and above all heavy plasmas. You only need about 30 to equip two Skyranger or one Avenger team, the rest can be sold for over 100k bucks. Never needed to resort to the travelling scientists exploit.

                        • Not after awhile, when you have engineers cranking them weapons by the boatload. Though, initially, the swapping personnel trick really helps.

                          • Just finished my first Terror mission (yeah Bush, there were such a thing as terror before 11/9!), and came to think of another tip. Don't take cover behind Gas-pumps...

I believe it was the Laser cannons that offered the most economical production/profit tradeoff. I made a fortune by cornering the market on large volume discount laser cannons.

And another tip, don't go for grenades. Go for heavy duty explosives! They take down buildings AND any aliens in them.
Skeptics should forego any thought of convincing the unconvinced that we hold the torch of truth illuminating the darkness. A more modest, realistic, and achievable goal is to encourage the idea that one may be mistaken. Doubt is humbling and constructive; it leads to rational thought in weighing alternatives and fully reexamining options, and it opens unlimited vistas.

                              • Explosive packs have their uses. You probably can't throw them like grenades, though.
