  • well, rah, I've always been killed by the villagers and never by the mafia- so something's working right.

especially since in the 3 games I've played I've at least identified one guilty person... and I figure I identified the culprits in this game as well... but time will tell about that

      • DC, if you think you've identified me, then you're wrong, again.

Did we lose a mafia, did they trade turns?
The method of killing isn't much of a clue in this one

                  • Ah, should I wait for some more votes, to see if Hammond dies or not?

                          • When Malcom counted the votes, he was slightly surprised to see that Hammond had received the majority. He was still praying when they threw him out of the helicopter.

                            ...

"Now that the killers are all dead, we can continue the inspection. Despite that for some reason, Hammond wanted to sabotage his dream, it will go on without him," said Ed Regis as a sort of eulogy.

                            ...

That day, Herc the lab technician gave the tour Dr. Wu would have, of the facilities for producing the dinosaurs. Even the other park employees watched, because none but the upper ranks had actually been allowed to see before.

                            ...

"Now, there's something I've been wondering," asked Dr. Satler, as they were about to start. "How do you get the DNA for the dinosaurs?"

"Well, most soluble protein is leached out during fossilization, but twenty percent of the proteins are stil recoverable by grinding up the bones and using Loy's procedure. However, as you can imagine, twenty percent yield is insufficient, so this is only a backup," replied the technician.

"Well, then, what's your primary method?"

"We get most of it from amber -- the fossilized resin of prehistoric tree sap."

"That's realy quite clever," interjected Malcom.

"I still don't understand," said Dr. Satler.

"Tree sap," the technician explained, "often flows over insects and traps them. The insects are then perfectly preserved within the fossil. One finds all kinds of insects in amber -- including biting insects that have sucked blood from larger animals."

"Sucked the blood," Dr. Satler repeated. Her mouth fell open. "You mean sucked the blood of dinosaurs... and then the insects are preserved in amber..." Dr. Satler shook her head. "I'll be damned. That just might work."

                            ...

Later, they came to a room marked HATCHERY. The technician said that the baby velociraptors couldn't bite, yet, because the babies didn't have any teeth, even egg teeth.

                            "Egg teeth?" asked Nedry.

"Most dinosaurs are born with egg teeth -- little horns on the tip of the nose to help them break out of the eggs. But raptors aren't. They poke a hole in the eggs with their pointed snouts, and then the nursury staff has to help them out," replied the technician.

"You have to help them out," Dr. Satler said, shaking her head. "What happens when they breed in the wild?"

"Oh, they can't do that," said the technician. "None of our animals is capable of breeding. That's why we have this nursury. It's the only way to replace stock in Jurassic Park."

                            "Why can't the animals breed?"

"Well, as you can imagine, it's important that they not be able to breed," said the technician. "And whenever we faced a critical matter such as this, we designed a redundant system -- that is, we always had at least two control procedures. In this case, there are two independent reasons they can't breed. The first is, they're sterile, because we irradiate them with UV rays."

                            "And the second reason?"

"All the animals in Jurassic Park are female," said the technician, a tad smugly. "It is necessary to introduce a certain chemical during development to make the dinosaur male. We don't, so ours all become female. And they don't breed."

                            ...

Malcom was still not convinced that animals hadn't gotten off the island and started breeding. "But just suppose one of these animals got off the the island..." he said.

"You mean like the dead velociraptor?" asked the technician. "We don't know what the explanation for that is, but it isn't one of ours. All of our animals are engineered to be lysine-dependent -- that is, they cannot manufacture the amino acid lysine. Without a regular supply of lysine -- in the form of tablets provided by the handlers -- they die within 24 hours."

                            ...

They slept easy that night, except for the permanently pessimistic Malcom, because not even Malcom worried that there would be another murder. Imagine their surprise, then, when Dr. Harding was found dead, again of lysine overdose.
