btw, I should mention that the "clash amid sparks" part was for storyline purposes only, and that Bob did not actually attack in the 3rd part of the combat.

I'm consitently stupid- Japher
I think that opinion in the United States is decidedly different from the rest of the world because we have a free press -- by free, I mean a virgorously presented right wing point of view on the air and available to all.- Ned

Maybe he had trouble calculating weapon vs. armor values?I'm consitently stupid- Japher

Gladiator Semis- Final
The Doctor studied his fallen adversary for some time. By the actions of the audience they obviously assumed he was dead, still chanting, “Doc, Doc, Doc…” combined with jubilant undulation. The Doctor knew better, as did the other gladiators watching. Though Bob was still not moving, his chest rose and fell softly… a shallow, hoarse breathing quietly escaped his mouth, accompanied by pinkish bubbles of foam. He also noted that although Bob had lost most of his weaponry, his sword still remained, under his body and close enough to wield if need be.
After several minutes of observation, the Doctor decided that Bob was indeed unconscious and posed no threat. He went to extract his weapon from Bob’s body.
Spoiler:With some effort, the Doctor freed his shield from the torso of his rival. In an instant, Bob leapt forward- eyes ablaze, teeth bared, with a feral aura permeating from him. The Doctor was so shocked by the suddenness of the maneuver he failed to raise a defense in time, and the sword struck home, burying itself deep in the chest of the Doctor, the blade sliding between the bones in the ribcage. An audible gasp arose from the audience, whose clamor of excitement was instantly extinguished.
It took an instant for the Doctor to recognize that, despite the nature of the wound, he was not badly hurt- by luck or fate no organs were damaged by the attack. He turned his attention back to Bob, readying himself for a counterstroke, when he again caught the gaze of his enemy, and saw nothing there. When he extricated his shield from his opponent he had pushed Bob’s body over the threshold and Bob died at that moment.
“A wolf to the end,” he whispered. “Well done.”
At these words, Bob’s body seemed to relax; his grip on the weapon loosened, and finally went free, as he tumbled backwards into the dust, and moved no more.
The spectators were still stunned into silence when the Doctor pulled forth the sword and held both it and his shield aloft. The cry again came forth, cheers and accolades heaped from above. The Doctor beamed with pride, but for him or for the fallen gladiator next to him, none could say.
The Doctor takes 4 hps and ends with 69. Bob takes 2 hps and is dead.
Congratulations to the Doctor, who goes on to the finals.

Gladiator Semis- Round 5: Ram vs Spaced
Temporarily lost in the battle beside them, the Ram and Spacius turned their attentions toward each other once more. In light of their last round, both adopted defensive positions, looking for an opening.
It was the Ram who strode forth 1st, charging headlong at Spacius. Spacius continued his defense, and for a moment it held his opponent at bay, but then the Ram slipped past his guard to cut him down his chest and stomach. Enraged, Spacius attempted to return the favor but the Ram spun off to the side and dashed out of harm’s reach.
The Ram took no damage and remains at 48 hit points. Spaced lost 13 and is now at 47. Send for Round 6.
The Ram catches up. Before you two send your next orders, I feel we’d better discuss opinions wrt a double-KO, since it’s looking like a possibility.I'm consitently stupid- Japher
