I can't imagine not playing games. what would I do with my day?
My computer is pretty fast. Not top of the line, but can handle games like KOTOR and NWN easily. I didn't seem to have any problems with Halo. Halo came free with my sound card, I only played it for about an hour before I became bored of it. FPS's aren't my style.
well im now in my 30's and love a good game as much as i did when i started - so i think once a gamer, always a gamer
But i really dont hold much love for the direction many games are taking. Its all quick thrills and graphics above all else - which in a way is a regression to the ealry days of gaming, when games were simple but sexy(relative to the hardware limits of the time! ) and you played it for a few days then moved on.
It just seems to me that the promise of great in-depth gaming, that the more powerfull hardware brought through the 90's; was never really realised somehow. It all seemed to peak with games like Civ2/xwing/Xcom etc?
And if you dont like FPS then it does make your choices limited these days, in fact if you dont like 3D in any kind of game(and they'll use it in any genre these days ), then its becoming nealry impossible to buy a new game.
Anyway - sorry for the ramble . luckily for me i've always loved a good rpg, and this is one area where computer games have been making some decent progress recently with the likes of Morrowind + KOTOR and i feel there is room for improvement
For tbs type games - it seems most of the good uns have already been done, but i keep my eye out for any news, and the 'indie' type developers still do stuff in this genre( shrapnel games being one of the better companies ).
@ quantum_mechani i see these guys also are responsible for Dominions II, so i'm going to have a good look now, i havent played it but its on the (getting shorter these days) list of games i might buy - cheers for the info
even if the main publishers leave the TBS fan out in the cold - it will just create space in the market for smaller companies who's quality of game gets better all the time
As for a new game to play - how about some of the older games you never got around to playing? I've been having fun trying to hunt down old games i might have liked but missed from the last 10 years. I've developed a serious Magic the Gathering(microprse) liking over the last few months on my steam powered PC

Bush's Republican=Neo-con for all intent and purpose. be afraid.
there are a few games I have missed in the past 5 years or so. Some are hard to find, but not impossible. I'm sure I can find them on the internet and have them shipped.
And I have nothing against 3D. I don't mind good graphics. In fact I like good graphics, as long as the gameplay is good.
So what is this dominions2 everyone keeps mentioning? Is there a demo?
Neverwinter Nights (and expansions)
KOTOR
Gothic and Gothic II
Morrowind (and expansions)
Any I'm forgetting off of the top of my head?

try out KOTOR or any of Baldur's gate/Icewind dale series. that will leave you sleepless for a while
Heroes of Might and Magic III! The Complete Expansion Pack! Purchase it and you'll never have free time again!
I played that ancient Greece scenario for almost 6 months over and over again. that game really never becomes boring but the expansion (Armagedon's blade) didn't work on my computer. have no idea why
