  • Children of the Nile

I just saw a preview of this game yesterday... It seems like a mixture of Tropico and Pharao. You build a city in the old Egypt.

The game sounds interesting, but the graphics doesn't look that great...

We take a look at the debut game from developer Tilted Mill and discover why it will offer a fresh approach to the city-building strategy genre.

It will be released within this year, or so it says...

    Anybody else noticed this game?

looks and sounds interesting - the preview at gamespot made me think of the Sims in ancient egypt

I kinda like the graphics(i must be playing my xbox too much ), but sometimes the character models dont really blend in with thier surroundings properly? Still i'm sure they will polish it up a bit. One to keep an eye on

And no - i hadn't noticed this before so cheers Adagio

Damn you ADG, I just posted in someone's thread on CotN, and then there you go starting your own about it.

Okay, I noticed this baby a looong time ago, and been following it ever since.

I'm really excited about it because I've played all citybuilders since Caesar 2, and they are cool. I also like the team a lot. They are the same old guys from Impressions, and their interaction with the community is superb. The devs post on the official forums a lot and give out some juicy bits of info on a regular basis, and that is really cool.

        (Check out the forums here:

        )

From all the info I've seen, I must say that this game is going to be different gameplay-wise. Like the Gamespot preview says, they are concentrating on individual people rather than abstract society systems as before. That will hopefully introduce a whole new dynamic into the game, and make it so much more fun to play.

On the graphics side of things, it is somewhat disappointing. They are using the Empire Earth engine. Quite frankly, I never liked the way it looked back when it came out; now I like it even less. However, the developers assure us that they have revamped some code, and made it look all cool. I don't know, we will see on that one.

All in all, definitely something to keep an eye on.

This looks promising; I like the time setting. I only hope it does not have the Simcity gameplay but rather the old caesar-pharaoh gameplay

The graphics look rather ok to me, they're not that bad are they Adagio? For a citybuilder I'd say it looks nice!

Yeah, I wouldn't say the graphics are too bad either. A bit clean-cut and erring on the side of cartoonish, but it could be worse...

Although it could be alot better, too.

              I hope it's the other way, since I didn't play Caesar-Pharao much

IMHO the graphics in Pharao-Caesar was much better...

Noway. Caesar III (I presume you mean that one) and Pharaoh were not 3D; and they're pretty old games now. Noway those gfx are better!

My point exactly... this 3D thing looks awfull... By using 3D it kills a lot of details in the graphic

Ok, maybe comparing to Caesar and Pharao is a little of, since I barely remembers the graphics in it, but the idea is still the same...

Well, it's a matter of taste mostly, I think. Honestly, I liked Pharaoh graphics more. Despite being 2D, they were great. This 3D stuff is way overrated any way, IMO.

For instance, I'd honestly prefer well-drawn 2D grass, like Pharaoh:

The textures are bland and unappealing. Meh.

Generally I would support 2D graphics for a game like this over 3D.

But comparing it to Pharaoh? yech. Those graphics are so damn gawdy. The 3D graphics of this game are better than pharoh's, I'd have to say.

Gawdy? ... Pardon my ignorance, but I am not quite sure what that word means; otherwise, I'd have a retort ready by now.

Any way, I think Pharaoh's graphics are done in style and quite well. They were better than the cartoonish looks of Zeus, for instance. But like I said, it is mostly a subjective matter any way.
