if one owns chrono trigger on the PS, as part of that final fantasy set, is it therefore legally ok to have the snes rom?

I didn't know that it wasn't allowed to discuss such awesome things in the APolyton dominion.

It's also legal if you own the game in question. For instance, I own Chrono Trigger for the SNES, but I don't feel like dragging my SNES out to play it, so am I allowed to have a "backup" copy for my own use. If that is in the form of a ROM, that is valid, legally speaking.
This reminds me too much of Don't Copy That Floppy!

I'm pretty sure that ROMs are illegal regardless of wether you own the cartridge or not. But it's not like the cops are going to bust down your door for playing chrono trigger, anyways.

Not on this site, it isn't.

That doesn't mean I don't agree with you or the others here, just wanted to keep you people out of trouble

I heard that ROMs are totally legal if you own a copy.

Sorry I have no intention of discussing where or how to get ROMs, just discussing the actual laws around them

                    Hmm, still open.

You never know, change the discussion to emulators and it might last even longer.

for snes i like zsnes, for all thing gameboy(gb, gbc, and gba) i like visualboy advance, and for nes i used nesticle(iirc). i haven't tried genesis, ps1, n64(runs slow, bad support), or mame(arcades) too seriously yet. the emulators are very easy to find for all these.

roms are harder to find but once you do find them be prepared to be amazed. you'll see so many games(probably more than a few thousand for snes alone) and tons you've never even heard of. of course most of them are crap but there are a few diamonds in the rough. i don't think anything i said here will get me in trouble.

yeah i know. n64/ps1 games generally weight in at many mbs though so i have never been keen on them(i have 28.8k remember).

are there any decent n64 emulators? I haven't checked in a long while.
