      • Round 11

        Clash of the Titans

Animosity towards Spaced Cowboy had been growing for some time, among the House of Ljvectko, the House of Skank, and the House of Antlerkov.

In the grandest alliance yet in the galaxy, three war fleets converged on Spaced's homeworlds.

        Code:
        ADMIRAL VLAD
        ------------
         8 TT/L
         1 DB/L
         1 BB/L
        Lasers: 47
        10 TT/F
        Fighters: 50
        11 TT/L
         1 BB/L
        Torpedoes: 58

        ADMIRAL LJUBE
        -------------
        17 TT/L
         1 FG/L
        Lasers: 86
        22 TT/F
         4 FG/F
        Fighters: 114
        17 TT/L
         2 FG/T
        Torpedoes: 87

        ADMIRAL SKANKY
        --------------
         7 TT/L
         1 DB/L
        Lasers: 39
         9 TT/F
        Fighters: 45
        24 TT/T
        Torpedoes: 120

        Allied OoB:
        TFT-LFL
        Back off and bunch together
Spaced panicked at the sight of a giant mass of 136 warships looming in high orbit. It reminded him of the legendary Doomstars. Luckily for him, he had kept his fleet at home. Then again, that might not have been the smartest move. Not liked it mattered though-- a Ljube spy had infiltrated Space's headquarters. Space's spy program was compromised.

There was no time to worry about that though. Space scrambled his fleet.

        Code:
        ADMIRAL SPACED
        --------------
        29 TT/L
        Lasers: 145
        23 TT/F
         1 DB/F
        Fighters: 116
        24 TT/T
        Torpedoes: 120

        Defensive OoB:
        FLT-LTF
        Back off, normal spacing
Astronomers on other planets would report what appeared to be a supernova as massive amounts of destructive power were unleashed in the battle.

With both fleets backing off, the battle was fought at long distance, which probably saved the outgunned Spaced. The Allied cluster was good target for his torpedoes as well.

In the opening shot, the Allies unleashed a barrage of torpedoes. Spaced scrambled his fighters and picked the torps off, but there were too many, and 149 hit home.

Next, the Allies launched fighters. While Spaced had lasers armed, his ships weren't close enough to cover each other, and much power was wasted trying to hit fighters still too far away. Being outgunned did him in, and while he downed many fighters he still took 137 hits.

The third wave was a torpedo duel. Here again, Spaced, with his ships normally spaced, had the edge, but he was so badly outnumbered that there were 25 alllied torpedoes unintercepted.

Next came a mostly symbolic exchange of laser fire, where 7 stray shots nailed Spaced.

The fifth round saw Space's strategy's only flaw, as his torpedoes were met by Allied fighters. Still, the close formation of the Allied ships limited the inbalance, and despite nearly two to one numerical superiority, the Allies only scored 178 hits.

In the final attack, Allied lasers opened fire on Spaced fighters at long range. While damage was minimal at first, the Spaced fighters were swatted down once they got close to the Allies' massed fleet.

        Code:
        raw data

        ALLIES: Back off/Bunch together
        SPACED: Back off/Normal

        ALLIES SPACED
        ---------------
        T 265 F 116
        F 209 L 145
        T 265 T 120
        L 172 L 145
        F 209 T 120
        L 172 F 116

        adjusted

        ALLIES SPACED OUTCOME
        --------------------------------------
        T 265 F 116 Spaced takes 149 hits
        F 209 L 72 Spaced takes 137 hits
        T 265 T 240 Spaced takes 25 hits
        L 43 L 36 Spaced takes 7 hits
        F 418 T 240 Spaced takes 178 hits
        L 86 F 58 Spaced takes 28 hits.

Spaced takes a total of 524 hits.
        Allies don't take any damage.
A small amount of tactical luck saved Spaced. His fleet took a real whuping, but they held their ground.

Spaced was left with 9 TT/L, one of them heavily damaged; 9 TT/F and, and 8 TT/T.

The base that the fighting took place over was utterly vaporized by stray torpedoes.

          • Crap...well I'm done now. Question is: Who turns on who now?

When did the OOB change to double up? TTL???

I goofed on some of the math and modifiers., but it's been corrected now.

In short, Allies walk away unscathed, Spaced takes a beating but survives.

                • Don't tell me that being smug about my Murray anti-Murrayed SC! That would be too much to bear.

I'm building a wagon! On some other part of the internets, obviously (but not that other site).

                      • well, you did surprisingly well. I suppose your enemies expected a complete wipeout.

What probably saved you more than anything was mutual suspicion among the Allies. Ljube, of all people, threw his entire fleet at you. Vlad sent everything of consequence, holding back only a few measly frigates. Skanky, however, kept fifteen titans in port.

                        • No-one mentioned sending a spy, so I had to assume Spaced could have sent out his fleet that round. I also revealed how much of my fleet I would be sending - 75% of it.

                          • What would have been better to save my spy for this turn. If I could have kept LL at home, I might have had a chance.
