  • DESIGN: Possible alterations to movement 2

This is something that Civ3 fixed and I think we should try to address it too. In the picture below ships can sail between the two tiles joined by the red line across an isthmus of land. While this creates nice shortcuts sometimes, I think that ships should be forced to sail around.

There is an acceptation to this rule of course. Viking long ships could be moved over shot pieces of land to rivers or lakes they could theatrically use the “isthmus” to get to the other side but of course it would take there turn.

I don’t like the idea of unique units they seam silly to me. A country called England with an advanced ship is disadvantaged against a German country with tanks when England is landlocked.

I like the canals idea! Will help with graphics if called upon (I'm thinking that canals might have to be like road improvements for different directions of travel...)

I like the longship idea, maybe a unit flag for river travel, so it can be either a tech for those that want the option of a Unique Unit for mods like a viking invasion one...

I was also going to work on an enlarged version of rivers so there would be two types navigable and tributary.

Began work on bigger rivers last night I can't seam to find a balance between size of the river and the amount of tile left dry .

I will then work on canales

Disagree. Mostly. What it represents isn't a small portion of land that ships shouldn't be able to cross, but a small portion of sea that land units can get across on pre-Carrock level boats. Its the Spain-Gibraltar gap, the Bosphorus.

Any additions or alterations to the current rules would be way to complex to be worthwhile, IMO.

Wombat it simple. I don’t know why I did not think of this earlier :d

We have been working on the assumption that a river is a river onto of a tile what about a river tile. we already know the random map generator is up for a major looking at we just put it in then (with the added underwater terrain)

As for canales it’s just a mirror of underwater tunnels

Could rivers just be a mirror of beach tiles that both land and sea can go on?

Yes but beach looks a bit rubbish. An alternate version that looks flowing would be better.

Agreed on the graphics. Is it possible to copy the tile and add it (the game still cant handle added terrain right?) Is it possible through slic to have random nav-river tiles placed over some river tiles (could the getwater function with this?)

The graphics arent to hard just widenen the already river graphics instead of beaches and place them on tiles, should work right?
