  • Combat bug or undocumented feature?

I was just testing combat between exactly the same power units but of different domains, like air vs. ground, sea vs. air etc. and I found something strange.

In sea vs. air, sea would get some kind of advantage and win in the majority of battles, roughly 70-80% of the time.

In air vs. ground, air would again win the most.

In ground vs. sea (in a city), ground would win most.

This is after almost 25 battles of each type, with 6 units on each side with the same attack and defence (30), and no flanking or ranged attacks.

    What is going on?

Something else I noticed is that anti-land and anti-sea active defence seems to have been removed from some units (according to the Great Library anyway) and just replaced with anti-air active defence. And even anti-air defence was removed from some too.

For example anti-air active defence was removed from the Interceptor (and partially removed from the Stealth Fighter). I think because active defence can fire also when you're moving, so when 2 enemy Interceptor's meet, both sides immediately actively defend from each other, but the bug is the moving unit always wins (or seems to get some big advantage in the exchange), even before any normal battle takes place.

Perhaps this needs to be fixed so a unit can only actively defend when not on it's own turn.

Active-defence is still present on some units, like the Mobile SAM for example, because no air unit can actively defend against a ground unit, so you don't get the silly exchange of active-defence with each other when a Mobile SAM moves close to an air unit, or vice versa.
