I used to play ctp a lot more than ctp2, then disaster my ctp disc broke. I e-mailed blackice to ask for a no cd crack but he never replied and so ctp is now off my computer and until I see it somewhere available cheap it will stay off.

CTP2 modded is now pretty good, but man I really used to enjoy the multiplayer scene for ctp and I found that wes's med pack for ctp was excellent and gave me a difficult game. Wes's med mod for ctp2 aint no where near as good as it was for ctp.

Yeah I really miss mtp with ctp, never mtped with ctp2 'cos never found enough of a community.

If you still have the game on your pc, then join the PBEM comunity. You can join games and play but you can't start new games yourself.

Ok - if you have the no-cd crack then.....

D'oh, I could have gotten you a no-CD crack as well, Boney, had you contacted me privately (The Apolyton Staff is anti-piracy of course, but no-CD cracks can be used for good as well as for evil so I have copies for both CtP games (and a bunch of other games))

CTP2 is much better and the modding ability make mods like the City Expansion, Visible wonders, a much better AI, Upgrading units, Elite units (like civ3 Unique Units but given randomly), Leader units, Religion code and lots of other stuff possible.

Other than the CTP2 mods I believe the lack of features like borders and the not so good terrain and UI graphics like CTP2. Are stuff to that make me stick to CTP2. But the trade system of CTP1 is something that trully interest me.

If CTP2 had the trade system of CTP1. CTP2 could be modded to be the best CTP2 game ever

I much prefer the trade system in ctp1 too, even though it was overpowerful to the game as a whole (but then so is commerce in CtP2) but cant you mod both games?

From my limited experience with slic from ctp1 it seemed a little more easy to understand and alter but obviously theres alot more possibilities with slic2.

I'd have to check the code to be sure but I think most of this will work in CtP1 as well. You just need enough manpower to convert it all...

Probably, the city expansion and the visible wonders mod wont work since i could not find anything like a CreateImprovement function
And the Elite units will only work if the mod functions exist in slic 1 which i believe it doenst.

But probably the upgrading units and leader wonders can be modded to CTP1.

I have found a shop here in Thailand that has boxes of the original game (ctp) for around 5pounds, but with the box and manual all written in Thai. I will buy a couple of boxes.

I was just wondering whether these could become collectors items in the future, especially if they are unopened. A bit like matchbox cars. Is there any case of games in original condition becoming collectors items?

THanks everyone for trying to help, unfortunately I have taken everything off my hd already, this was 'cos I was having cpu probs and lost nearly everything.

I still think that the interface for ctp is better than ctp2. I hate the ctp2 message system.

I am still offline at home 'cos my jungle redoubt has probs with the phone line, and has for a few months now. I will be pressing for a new line in the next two weeks.

Damn, you found one in Thai? I browsed a few computer stores (I bet you know where ) while I was in Bangkok myself -- I figured it'd be a nice souvenir -- but no luck...

Maybe for classic games like Civ1 or SimCity, but I doubt it could happen for CtP...

Often the things that did not sell well originally become the most collectable. So there is still hope, especially with it being in Thai, certainly not many of those around.
