    Ecotopia Sucks......

Production is horrible. Even tho you get rangers, it takes like 40 turns to build one

Ya once I had 9 marines outside a city when I nuked it. Had forgot that nuke pollution kills also

Corporate Republic was a standard favorite of mine until I realized the pollution costs involved, so now I might use it for just a while for the production and switch to ecotopia. Ecotopia is fine after you have the Star Ladder with one or more cities with Nanite Factories.
Of course, once Gaia Theory is in place, I don't have the pollution problem and it depends on the circumstances -- either Corp. Rep. or Virtual Democracy.

I wonder at all the peeps who say Ecotopia sucks due to production?!?! By the time I get to Ecotopia Tech I have terraformed most of the land around me to green hills, and nearly every city has mills, factories, oil refineries, nuclear plants, robotic plants, drug stores, fusion plants etc etc... and they are mostly surrounded by mega mines. I can still pump out nearly any unit in 2 turns max.... Whilst I still have all the enjoyment of watching every city in an enemies civ riot and rebel when I destroy all the improvements in every trade-linked city with the nanovirus. You blew up your own units using an eco-ranger?!?! That's why you don't like Ecotopia?!?! lmao....

I killed my own city with an eco ranger once by accident but that didn't put me off Ecotopia (Not that I use it much - doesn't have a big enough city limit is the main problem).

You can have 110 cities without any penalties in Ecotopia too

Yeah, I suppose another 10 in VD doesn't really help that much...

I'm too busy training my soldiers to build tile improvements. At one point, I improve every tile my people are working, and this is it. Unless, of course, there's an emergency. Why infect the enemy's cities when you can capture them and use their wealth?
No, blowing up my units is not the reason I dislike ecotopia. It's just a ridiculous incident I stated. I don't like it because an eco-ranger takes forever to build.
                Truth is not negotiable.

                    Thanks

Hey but honestly.. A simple switch from Communism/Fasicism to Ecotopia can mean the difference between having 30,000 production under one and then having 15,000. Its just not worth it...in my opinion

edit-I have never seen an enemy ecotopia. No humans in PBEM or vs AI

Looking at the results it looks as though Corporate Republic is everyones favorite, and unsurprisingly Monarchy, Republic and Democracy have no votes. The first two have essentially no use and Democracy is useful only in very specific circumstances (a short term improvement to research at the cost of everything else...).

I've never seen an enemy Ecotopia either, but I haven't been in a PBEM game at that stage in tech.

I vote for Theocracy in the early game too. I typically try to stay a Theocracy until Communism or Fascism, although I have run out of city size before then (at which point I would ride Democracy). The late game depends on the situation. Some cases demand Corporate Republic, some cases demand Technocracy.

I've never tried Ecotopia. Not having any characteristic rated as "Excellant," it just never appealled to me. Given all this discussion about it, though, I'm even more tempted to try it and make it work.

Surprisingly, I have a friend who actually prefers Monarchy to Theocracy. He claims Monarchy is much better for attacking than Theocracy. Given Monarchy's better threshold for unhappiness for units not in cities, I can see why he would think that.

I dont know how you can vote for an old gov't like Theocracy. I mean, were talking about governments that you keep until the game ends, dont we? so here goes: CR is the best gov't. It gives you SO much gold that even virtual democracy's science wont catch up. Besides that, it has 3rd best prod, THE BEST grewth, and the bit about military: all governments are the same. Units all have the same strength. (unless youre playing my modpack).
Theocracy has only ONE(1) advantage. Production and everithing else is slowed. so CR it is ppl! plus the prod bonus is not that much bigger...

Ever tried 9 clerics selling indulgences on an unsuspecting enemy city? That's 27 gold every single turn!

Nope. never tried it, but 27 gold is pathetic. U'd have to make a hundred clerics to get some status on your Gold.
