I can't say I like any of these governments. The most efficient government, in my opinion, is corporate republic. Gold is the key to everything. As my Civ II advisor aptly put it, "it is wealth that moves the world, and profit that rules it." Gold keeps the people and city improvements under your control, rush-buys anything, and pays for research. If you have gold, you're safe.

In the early game, theocracy is amazing, its much better than Monarchy, its available almost right away, and you get clerics, which are good for exploring with along with slavers.

In the late game, ecotopia. I LOVE ECO-RANGERS!!!

Yeah, in the late game Corporate Republic is far too good (unless you want eco rangers ). The gold lets you build almost as fast as Technocracy, and research almost as fast as Virtual Democracy. It's a shame the research powerhouse of V.D. isn't available until so late in the tech tree, so you can't really research much with it.

If you want fair & balanced govt.s use CDs mod or the MedMod (constitutional monarchy! Never tried it, but it sounds cool).

I enact theocracy in the early game. I used to keep it until I got corporate republic, because I had moral reasons against communism and fascism, and practical reasons against democracy. (Theocracy is a wonderful government really: each extra city costs only half a happiness point!) But then I made my own government, military dictatorship. That represents how I personally would have run my empire. To make up for it's efficiency, I never switch out of it. It provides for 75 cities, and each extra city costs one point. I can provide for 100 cities, but beyond that is.......... nightmare.

I wonder why some people think ecotopia is a great military government? I enacted it once to get eco-rangers for a revenge operation. The poor production kills all military effort. My army support was unbearably high, and I would have had to wait for 70 turns to get my eco-rangers. I rush bought them after a while, when that got cheaper...

I always tried to get to Technocracy, for its production value. In combination with Gaia Controller and AI Entity it was unbeatable after maxing out the sliders. The only thing what I had to do save early and often and if the AI Entity revolted, I went back to the last turn and made shure that the citiciens of the AI Entity city arecontent even without the wonder, so play on.

Ecotopia is best after you've spent a while in corporate republic, and got a huge gold stockpile. By the time I could research ecotopia, there isn't enough resistance from the enemy for production speeds to be a problem.

Sorry, the lure of Fascism is too great. Too think that there is a unit that has the same attack as a tank, in an age of Musketeers, cannot be overlooked! Plus the science is a boost..... I will usaully ride Fascism too C.Rep or even through the whole game.

I also enjoy using theocracy till C.Republic. Democracy is a bad choice tho. Bad production... Communism is also a bad choice. Bad pollution ..

I pretty much go the Theocracy --> Corporate Republic route too.

                It's all a money issue!

Fascism's advantage in the early middle game are too good to overlook. More often than not that special unit is enough to blow away pikemen/catapult combos. The high production power is a plus for obvious reasons. Just make sure the bank account is substantial and that you have many scientists/science improvements.

                      Hello preacherman, love the Signature!!!

Ok there has been no action in this forum for days. I think age is finally taking its toll on CTP.

Anyway, Fascism is awesome. good Science, good growth, good military.

I am only Communist in some of my PBEM games. Where all the human players have gobbled up the land and goods. All I have left is a small civ. So I need production, which is why Communism is a good 3rd world nation government.

If your on top of the world, I wouldnt bother with communism!

Ecotopia would have to be my fave. Infecting enemies major trade capitals with the nanovirus is just way too much fun. And getting happiness bonuses/celebrations in your civ every time you do something absolutely rotten to someone else in the game is absolutely hilarious.

I've got to try Ecotopia at least once. I feel like I'm missing something!

What you're missing, jpww, is killing your soldiers by accident. The first time I tried to eco-ranger the enemy, I didn't know that this thing destroys not only the city, but everything in the city radius. I lost quite a few units.
