  • Observation from afar and a near:)

I been playing CTP since it first came out and am one of its bigger (structural, figuratively and literally) Fans

I have listend to, sided with and argued against various points when it comes to starting positions..

I am here to tell ya this:

I am involved in several games where I am playing against several humans each controlling, 2,3 or even 4 civilizations in a game.

I have to say I am utterly amazed how from one civ to another the degree of fortunes or luck do indeed control how well one does.

I dont really see where the #1 slot (BLUE) has any real advantage even though I have seen "niceness" in the files dictating the so called primo spots

I am just sharing how things look from an average joe's perspective, I know, I know we got every kinda player from Great tacticians to eveil warlording to subservise sneaky-snakes playing with many a varying gamestyle..

I just enjoy and have to say that land does make a difference..

Shame you could have a land games generated with tons of rivers and mountaisn and hills with some sweet grassland for growth sprinkled in..then it would be a producers paradise..

Ok..just sharing what i have observed..

I know i know..PLEASE enlighten me as to why this is a bad thing or good thing..

I am just commenting is all

    a second installment/comment:

When you "Immerse yourself" into the role as leader..it is pretty cool to not have contact with some of your civs for a long time..then to make the connection and help one another out

I went like 40 turns until I was able to "GO NATO" and bring in a partner against the Worlds subversives!"

There is a way to make the terrain fair to all, custom made maps.

I do think the starting player gets the best terrain and then it gradually gets worse till the last civ gets like desert. With a city that cannot produce a settler in under 20 turns. Probably the best thing to do I guess in that situation is move the settler around for 10 turns or more till you get a spot with some growth.

I like our game Gramp, even though you got the first four civs. That don't matter to me much, because like you say you can help the other civs out and work as a team. Much more interesting and much more to do per turn.

The bad thing about be so terrain influenced is not all civs get the same start. So depending on the skill/luck of the player he might do well or might have a terrible game.

Civ 2 is not so terrain influenced, not in the same way this game is. Rivers had a big effect on gold/science in Civ2 if I remember correctly.

I guess others felt the same way about this as thats why we got the mods.

But I guess you know the game mirrors real life in a way because countries strength today has alot to do with their lay of the land and the natural rescources it contains.

I think maybe next time we could do exact opposite Max..you launch..and do a reverse..you start with top 4 slots..

I noticed in my games that others in similiar situations are wreaking havoc on me..possibley to do with me not being their level..not sure..

I have 5 games, IIRC, with this setup going

you and I, EPW,Cuiach and then a 2 slot island and a 2 slot land

Cheers mate keep the turns coming lots of fun to me
