  • Help!! CSG games under Win XP SP2

Thanks for the help. I've been able to get CTP working, under Compatability Mode settings, but cannot getthe CSG files to run properly. When I double click on them it just starts the game normally. I know you are supposed to run a regular game of CTP under version 1.2 to allow the game to Rewrite the Registry, but even after doing so, no luck. I have the 1.21 patch installed.

Geez...what a pathetic way to bail on a game , huh?

Help! I need to continue getting my butt kicked!!!

Sorry abouth the originating post...it was a copy of one sent to Flame Flash and Grandpa Troll.

I've installed CTP on a new machine running XP SP2. I have been able to get the game to run by using Compataility Mode. I've run the 1.2 patch, then run a game to allow that patch to write to the registry re: PBEM games. Then I've installed 1.21 patch. When I double click on CSG files, the game starts to the normal start screen, not the CSG file.

I cannot play my incoming turns. I do not want to cheat my opponents of the opportunity to apply a good butt-kicking so please help if you can!

    Cheers
    Cuaich

One would need to set up a .csg game send it to one's self, then the .csg will be properly registered. :0)

My sweetheart installed Service Pck2 on our XP side of my PC..about 2-3 weeks ago..

Now I am having someproblems, I tried to uninstall and it said successful and then problem persisted so I tried reinstalling service pack 2 but now am denied. I sent for the CD since I could off website..but even the cd wont allow updates...

        strange

I am having the problem of accessing links...like now If I wanted to go to a post and see my profile.I get the window to come up and it simply hangs up partially open but you can see outline of the window with nothing in middle...

The way I get to my profile is I go the the page showing the various threads and click on where I was the latest poster I click on my name and no problems..

By The Way, i have no problems on my 98SE side...

        ~sigh~

            Tried this...no luck...arrgh!!

I have checked through the registry, and the values are all identical to my other machine running XP (without service packs) so it must be them that cause the disruption??

I have done everyting in the correct order, I believe:

            Install CTP from CD
change compatability mode to Win 95
Run game once (just to be sure), no problems
            Install 1.2 patch
run game once (just to be sure)
            Install 1.21
you guessed it, run game once to be sure
run PBEM game with myself (oooh...tingles...)
try and open by double clicking on csg file
            curse
check compatability mode, which is still set for Win 95
            go to bed

Sorry to hear Troll is having troubel now too. But, that will teach him to settle on rivers I wanted!!

            Any more ideas, anyone...please?

Dang, it can't help I've got CTP 1.21 out of the box. So I didn't have to do the extra stuff.

I'm tempted to send you a CD.
                Is that legal?

Cuaich did you do a registry find for csg? Seems to me this happened once to me too in xp and it was the file association registry line that had to be removed.

Also consider moving this thread to the help section, some very intellegent people hang out there. ;0)

Grandpa did you try taking out the firewall, or at least turning it off? The sp2 fix enables it automatically.

                        Funny you should ask

I got, in association with Hurricane/Tropical Storm/Tropical Depression Jeanne some serious weather..LIGHTNING!

                        Good News / Bad News..

                        My PC is f-r-i-e-d

I am at work now on my laptop..

I got the machine in the workshop and see if salvageable and took a few semoans and purchased a new PC

Ok..it wont be in for about 3 days then have to install everything so I will be out of service for playing for about 4-5 days

(Just hope no one demands I play in a 48 hour turn ratio )

Ok..sad aand bad but I will redeem myself

Now no more 98SE since I had several problems associated with Partition issues..

Means I can no longer host MP games.. but I will survive

Ok...I will make a post and alert my folks as to what is happening..

See you folks soon..BUT I am going to the mountain..newer (notthe latest and greatest but lots better than I had..I had an Athlon 2000+ (it was overclocked but was actually like 1.66 gig processor) I am going to an Athlon 3200+ so should improve performance with 512 RAM and 160 Gig HD and the graphics card will be a 64 bit not sure what brand..wife told me I had to wait until Christmas to upgrade but assures me if game play suffers then I can upgrade
                        Ok

                        Peace

I have same problem here: Double click don't open file as usual

                          Turn around:

                          1. Move CSG file to a folder in save games in CTP directory, i.e. in my PC:

                          C:\ctp\ctp_program\ctp\save\games\Troll

                          2. Rename CSG file to remove file extension:

                          C:\ctp\ctp_program\ctp\save\games\Troll\berXpert turn 126.CSG

                          Rename to ->

                          C:\ctp\ctp_program\ctp\save\games\Troll\berXpert turn 126

                          3. Run CTP and click on single player -> load game

                          4. Choose your turn file moved in step 1

                          5. Play , hit END button and send turn to your partner
