  • Comments on my terrain and Medieval mods

I decided to split my mod into two pieces, the terrain section and the Medieval section. The Terrain Mod is already available at... that "other" site.

I worked all night Saturday, and now the Medieval Mod section has been sent there as well, all patch 2 compliant and everything. Just set up a scenario folder, put the existing versions of CD's and Paul's graphics mods into it, paste mine on top of that, then transfer the new files into the core directory. Details are in the scenario file.

TP, it seems that most of your slic mod changes were included in the new patch. I don't know if you find this confirming or frustrating. I was going to incorporate the 1.71 version of your mod into mine, but after a detailed analyses decided to separate them. If you construct your patch 2 version like the others, as a paste-in, then it should go into mine with no problem.

    WesW,

No I am not frustrated at all - the fact that patch 1.2 contains some of my changes makes me happy that Activision has been considering my efforts partly.

There will be still this week a PowerSLICs 1.80 version which will be 100% compatible with patch 1.2. It is an intermediate solution to enable gamers to play with patch 1.2 and still keep the key benefits of PowerSLICs. A version 2.0 including a bunch of new features will follow at a later stage.

Now you may ask "Why do we need PowerSLICs at all now ?". Easy to answer - let's go through the features of 1.71 and check whether they are still needed after installing patch 1.2:

    Updated Dominique's Building MOD
    --------------------------------
Out it goes. Patch 1.2 delivers a similar solution by standard, especially the "you have just built XXX, next one is YYY in the queue" is great !

    Public Work reminder
    --------------------
Still needed even with patch 1.2 if you like this feature.

    Disappearing Units Workaround
    -----------------------------
Patch 1.2 fixed this bug hopefully, so out it goes (in fact it will be still in PowerSLICs 1.80 because it doesn't hurt - so you will be on the safe side)

    Warning on bombarding
    ---------------------
Patch 1.2 only fixes autocentering bugs on special units but not the autocentering bug on bombardments (I double-checked). So this feature has to be kept even with patch 1.2

    Ranking messages
    ----------------
Patch 1.2 does not deliver such a thing. Therefore it will be kept in PowerSLICs.

    Synchronizing of war messages
    -----------------------------
Patch 1.2 does not fix this, so PowerSLICs will take care of that.

    New messageicons for new messages
    ---------------------------------
Patch 1.2 does not have an effect on this, so PowerSLICs will take care of that, too.

    City growth messages
    --------------------
Patch 1.2 does not give such messages (but an estimate on how long it takes until a city will grow in the city view), so PowerSLICs will enable such messages.

And finally, PowerSLICs 1.80 will be also available in French language thanks to Alanus who did the translation.

    TP

P.S. I am out for today and tomorrow, so Apolyton will get the PowerSLICs 1.80 mid of this week for uploading.

I didn't realize that so much of PowerSlic wasn't in the patch. I'll be looking forward to it.

Btw, my Medieval Mod is already up at civnation. Gary had it listed within an hour after I sent it in. I sent in a tiny mod here a week ago, and it still isn't up.

I wondered what was wrong with their front page. I didn't know if it was a site reorganization of if my browser was messing up.

This is still my home site, I just hope you guys understand if we go over there for this particular activity.

WesW, you little web hussy! You think you can just come over here for a good time, then browse that "other" site when you feel a little confined by this relationship! Hmph! It's guys like you that give the rest of us a bad name with the ladies! It's ok, Markos, I'm here to defend your honor!

With my mods posted, the road to fame and riches now lies open before me! (Que dramatic music) Well, anyway, maybe a few people will enjoy them. You guys are probably going to be flooded with stuff this week as everyone updates their mod for the patch. Maybe in the end this scenario setup will make multiplayer easier.

It's too bad you can't work out a merger with civnation like you did to form this site. I know this place takes up a lot of time, and you and the guys at civnation are doing basically the same stuff.

what's this mania with mergers? mergers are not always a good thing.
and we dont do the same stuff with civnation

I think WesW was just trying to get at the point that while you guys are are saying you have so much to do - and your site is good. The guys at civnation seem to be able to put any new units/modifications up a lot faster (- their forums haven't exactly taken off).

Consequently if you want a new unit its best to look to civnation first. If you want to use the Forums use Apolyton. If it could have been done what we want is the best of both sites - speed and information.

                        Its just a dream!
