OK, apparently trying to take the endless waiting out of Civ-type games was a horrible idea.

After a year of working on this in one way or another, I've learned that people actually like to wait endlessly for programs to load, for games to actually work, and for people to finally take their turns.

This, and the fact that I have been rejected by the big wigs at Apolyton from the beginning has lead me to thinking that I'm through with Civ-related programming for good. Some of this has to do with the fact that no forum will ever be made to showcase my game, even though forums exist for games that don't exist, who's production was terminated ages ago, and who's production hasn't even got past the pencil and paper stage.

Nebula, thanks for being the one person who actually played my game. I wish you the best of luck with your projects.

I am sorry to hear you are quiting.

Still you must have learned a lot from it and that helps with your future as a programmer.

      What is your next project?

I do not play civ multiplayer games and never did. I do remember not being irritated by having to wait 15 minutes or so while a c64 game loaded from tape. So I guess you are right.

A forum would have been created for your game if it had a community around it. That is what forums are all about. But there are other reasons forums are created.

I bet more people played your game. But still it was nice seing your game develop from a simple limited boardgame to a more advanced civ like one. I had a nice couple of games with your engine so I should thank you.

      Good luck with your programming.

That's what I thought, but lately forums have been created for people that the big guys know better, and their games are thriving because of the existence of the forum. Face it, there are forums that have less than 2 active users right now, and there are also forums that started out recently with almost no active users at all.

I have no regrets, I have accomplished what I came here to accomplish. There is just no reason to waste my time making a multiplayer game for no players. I am going back to a community that anticipates my games, and gets more involved in the creation. Not only have I learned a great deal from creating Global Contention, I'm converting this project into my next one (a MP RTS game) and I'm having a lot of success in doing so.

        Good luck with your programming.
Thanks. I still think Civ3 sucks, so I'll likely return occasionally just to see the progress of your projects. Good luck with them too.

        Bye everyone.

Sorry to see you go mate. I had kept up-to-date with your project, but due to time constraints (I'm working like 16 hrs a day at the moment and having to check on our house that's being built every day) I've had little to no time to put into the computer. Any time I do have has been on developing my CTP2 mod. But what I saw of GC was great and has defenitely help me in my programming.

Anyways, thankyou and good luck with your programming. May I suggest Gamedev as a better site for "unknowns" like you and me?

Sorry to learn you quit. I had finally decided to DL your game now I had a new ISP which allows me to download stuff, but I must say I understand your points. I am not in multiplayer at all, though. Getting interest from people is something very hard somehow. Getting feedback from those who do play is sometimes even harder. Good luck with your next project anyway.

Too bad you couldn't get enough interest neonext . It is really hard capturing people's attention. I didn't know about the problem with forums. I'd think a fairly functional game should be something you could base a forum around even without a big website etc.

Good luck in your next project!
