Today's Headline: Internal bickering in the Chiron Alliance!
      Emergency meetings in progress...

      Good evening.
Today's headline is that there appears to be some kind of crisis developing within the Chiron Alliance. Little is publicly known at the moment, but our sources indicate that there has been a major fall out between our Commissioner Pravin Lal and Head Datajack Sinder Roze of the Data Angels. Officials have refused to comment so far, but Commissioner Lal has called an emergency meeting at U.N. Headquarters. There are also reports of increased activity in U.N. Enforcement Base where the military command facilities are currently off-limits to reporters. Military officials have also refused to comment on this evening's developments, except to say that there are no troop deployments underway and no heightened readiness in effect. Stay with us as we try to get in touch with the Data Angel Embassy here in U.N. Headquarters...

        The University Sun-Governor

        Important Announcement

High Academican Zakharov has invited all faction leaders to participate in a viewing of the new miracle mindworm-killer nerve gas.

Hopefully all will attend. However, it is likely possible that some leaders will snub our fair country which has accomplished oh so much more than their pitiful stick-in-the mud dictatorships.

          U.N. Headquarters

As he read Captain Svensgaard's messages, a smile slowly spread across the commissioner's face and he found himself chuckling quietly to himself. The Pirates may be lacking in diplomatic tact at times, but they usually had a point, and the point was usually a good one. Sure, they could be rather unpredictable at times, but he didn't really have anything bad on them. And the Cyborgs... to the best of his knowledge, they'd never really done anything truely wrong either. At least nothing that couldn't be written off as an "unfortunate misunderstanding" and forgiven on the grounds that nobody's perfect. And that left only the two he had never had any doubts about...

There and then, Lal knew that he did not want to leave the alliance. He also didn't need to. Roze had been right; they all did have something in common, and part of that something was the commitment to the U.N. Charter. There really wasn't anything wrong with being part of such an alliance. He got up and started walking down the corridor towards the Council hall, still smiling...

In an ornate office high above the streets of Morgan Industries, the CEO of the largest company in history browsed through his e-mail. A serious industrial accident had tied up his previous three or so days, after a faulty mineshaft released toxic gases over a farming settlement. It turned out that the constructors had been cutting corners, using inferior quality materials and the like. He had ordered the foremen fired and declassified, but the incident would be a public relations nightmare.

One message, marked "Priority One", caught Morgan's eye. It was from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He smiled; the poor souls had been working overtime since the beginning of the re-election campaign. He made a mental note to grant them extra vacation time as soon as this mess was sorted out. Opening the message, Morgan read:

            "CEO,

"It has come to our attention, from a reliable source, that Sinder Roze is aware of our reception of workers from the Hive. She may have spread this information to James Domai and the Free Drone government. An incident is likely. Recommend taking measures to contain or conceal these transactions."

Morgan frowned. He knew that Svensgaard had intercepted some of Yang's transports in the past, but had no idea how far along the grapevine the knowledge might have spread. The "workers" Yang had been sending him were mostly drones, deemed unfit for labor in the Hive. Since Morgan Industries' population growth was comparatively slow, Morgan had seen fit to take some of these undesirables to fill empty positions in factories and mines. He had known well that other factions would regard this as a form of slavery, and had been attempting to cover the affair legally by granting the immigrants citizenship and paying them the minimum wage. Unfortunately, Roze and Domai would not see it that way.

Morgan sent a short reply to Foreign Affairs, stating that he understood and proposing a government meeting to discuss the best course of action. Meanwhile, he would contact Yang and postpone the next shipment.

(OOC: It's sort of hard for me to see Morgan dealing in slaves, but there you go. I never thought of him as evil or malicious, merely a businessman who believes that some (undesirable) things are necessary in business. By the way, I also don't believe he would abrogate a treaty out of spite, as he seems to have with Roze in the past; but what's done is done, and I will abide by the constraints of history.)

OOC: I like your explanation of the situation Mr. President. It's logical, and easy to see how Roze and Domai would construe the facts. It all becomes a matter of perspective
As for the two treaty violations in the past, I have a possible explanation for you. (It wasn't really covered back than, Morgan was just being filled in for). Tensions were high, insults were being traded, lots of positioning going on. Morgan (I'm pretty sure about this) never declared that he had recognized the Data Angels as a seperate faction. We got University support at the time (seems strange seeing as how things ended up!) and that was really why Morgan backed off. So perhaps Morgan didn't recognize, or was advised not recognize the treaty, because you can't have a treaty with a bunch of rebels, they're not a faction. I'm all about giving Morgan integrity. Just don't think that Roze ain't going to trash him in Council!

              Angel's Herald

Planetary Governor Election Still Anyone's Game

As the election draws closer, it is becoming less and less clear who the current leaders in the poll are. With four candidates running, there has not been so complicated an election in the Council's history.

While our own Datajack Roze has garned support, the U.N.'s Comissoner Lal continues to run, causing a potential split in votes between the two from long-time allies the Nautalis Pirates, our friends of the Cybernetic Conciousness and Gaia's Stepdaughters. It is reported that Foreman Domai is considering voting Roze, although we cannot confirm that officially.

Meanwhile, Colonel Santiago has been given full support by Chairman Yang, and it seems that the Believer's are leaning in that direction as well.

Morgan continues to seek re-election, and it is likely that the University and Cult of Planet will side with him.

It appears that the only way we're going to tell this time is once the votes are tallied come election day.

Data Angel Reps To Attend Morgan Industrial Summit

Data Angel representatives accepted, today, the invitation to partake in an Industrial Summit, taking place at Morgan Industries. The Summit will focus on new and innovative technologies, and representatives from our own Citizen's Defence Force will be there showing off our latest Mindworm control equipment.

OOC: Argo, was there an actual (as in U.N. recognized, formal-termination-of-state-of-war) treaty signed between Morgan and Roze after the various conflicts? I like the sound of the differing views of "treaty" and "sovereignty" you brought up. If there wasn't, that might be a diplomatic issue at some point.

By the way, I think I keep calling Roze "Datatech" when in reality she's "Datajack". Sorry.

We seem to have been correct in our assessment of the situation regarding Lal and Roze. However, our research indicates that Svensgaard has attempted recently to make peace between the parties, with some success. Recommend that Operation Red Tide by postponed indefinitely.
                ***
OOC: Operation Red Tide would have been a campaign of rumor-spreading and grass-roots disinformation, designed to deepen the schism between Lal and Roze.

                  Athen Outpost

Colonel Rohrer looks over the latest dull updates of the Division of Five Battle Dragon Units, aswell as her Unit. (OOC: Total of Six)
Nothing much goes on these days except for keeping watch on the Spartans in the South while they keep watch of them. The Battle Dragons are quite ready to go in and fight them. Sighing, she decide to send a encrypted message to General Kell of the Spartan Blockdade Guardians currently based at Hawk of Chiron, just to say hello and to say she still exist :P. Since the Athen Incident, they been secretly sending messages to each other; taunting, teasing, gloating, etc in a friendly rivalry sort of way :P

OOC: General Kell and Colonel Rohrer fought together against the Hive at the Free Drone Blockade, where battle dragon units helped out, but disguised as Free Drones. Kell may notice of different tactics compare to the rest of the free drone, but must of simply thought they were the Drones Elite or something. So yes, they work together and so have a bit of a soldier to soldier type relationship. Of course, Kell would later found out they were Pirate units and was Rohrer that lead them when they were making trouble in the Upland Wastes towards the end of the Second Spartan War. I would think General Kell is the top General now, after Kessel :P Oh, Sprayber, what of Voki?

[FromProxima, an independent, conservative, Morganite news magazine.]

                    The Fruits of Democracy
                    by Richard Green

The U.N. Security Council on Old Earth became a joke in the 21st century, largely due to the fact that it was an elite club of countries who thought that they could dictate the affairs of non-members.

There is a great danger of the Planetary Council becoming the same. Our own CEO Morgan has been Governor for two decades, and what has changed? In practical terms, nothing. The supposedly "independent" Peacekeeping Forces continue to self-righteously proclaim their sole right to enforce the U.N. Charter while simultaneously allowing such radicals as Gaia's Stepdaughters to dictate their policy. Morgan has been unable to use his diplomatic power to contain the maniacal ambitions of Sinder Roze, due to the formidable bloc supporting her. Never mind that the Data Angels spent more money on weapons last year than the Spartans and the Believers combined. Never mind that the chief foreign policy goal of that faction remains the dissolution of Morgan Industries. No matter; all will bow to her and the Chiron Alliance as soon as she is elected.

The Council is split dangerously. The Spartans continue to campaign for the position, supported by the Hive and the Believers. The CEO is backed by the University and (grudgingly) by the Cult. And, despite rumors of an enormous row between the Alliance's chief power brokers, they will support one another come election day.

All factions are trapped by such a situation. Most objective obervers believe that Morgan cannot be retained. The election of either bloc's candidate will enrage the other bloc, dropping the largest military machines on Planet into a deadly standoff. Promises to "abide by the legitimate outcome" should be taken with a grain of salt. Santiago and Roze are both armed to the teeth and ready to fight. Ulrik Svensgaard is unpredictable at best and aggressive at worst. Brother Lal is only too eager to fight, except when his own cities are under direct attack.

The unfortunates in this situation are the Cult of Planet, who will literally be trapped between the two armies. There are unconfirmed reports of Spartan and Hive soldiers on the Believing border. And everyone knows what has been happening under the "humanitarian" activity in the west.

War is by no means certain. But all Chironian leaders would do well to remember the words of Moshe Dayan: Never prepare for the previous war. A whole new planet is forming before our very eyes. The previous wars are buried, and all bets are off.
                    ---
OOC: This magazine is very conservative (I imagined a couple of orders of magnitude to the right of America's Commentary - I don't know if you guys have read that), so they will of course say things the government never would, even if they agree on certain topics. Morgan is wary of Roze, but not in the way this writer is. The liberal Morganites are already very pro-industry, so I just imagined that the conservative ones would be even worse in their views of the Gaians and the Cult.

Ecological conference to be held in Province Xeno!

Official statement of this came early today from officials in Dawn of Planet, after rumours had paved the way for a while.

This is good news for the human and mindworm population in Province Xeno, as the already on the way construction of the conference hall in the base will bring more credit and workforce to the otherwise sleepy, but beatiful vacation town.

The number of participants is still unknown, but atleast representatives from Morgan Industries and The University should be coming.

                      The elections turning hotter

The upcoming Planetary Governor elections have every chance of turning into trouble.
Two power blocs, Datajack Roze backed by the old Chiron Alliance, of which rumours say the alliance is starting to fall apart, and the sovereign countries that are supporting Colonel Santiago.

Whatever the outcome is, another major war might be at hands here, and our faction is very likely to be dragged into it, from south against a renewed attack of Believers and their allies, the Hive and Spartans, and from north, the Gaians and Peacekeepers.

OOC: Mr. President. Well, a treaty was signed. In the first one, I returned Morgan Bank and you paid war damages. In the second one, you surrendered Morgan Bank (Now Data Bank). But, it was only ever really between me and you. Only the Pirates fired any shots at you, and that was more over trade issues than supporting the Angels. So, that could be Morgan's reasoning...
Yeah, you seem to be WAY to good at reading my Private Messages. We're talking faction leader to faction leader, allied, regarding alliance issues. We're talking top notch Data Angel security here, so I think you're getting a little too much info from your infamous sources. Unless....I have a top ranking leak...?

The ship carrying aid workers, medicine and food supplies, is part of a series of shipment arranged to aid civillian suffering within Believer bases. The shipments will have to proceed by rover through some dangerous territory, but as most of the fighting has occured on the Cult side of the border, they are not likely to have to pass through a battle zone.
