    Gayle,

Shame about the crash but we all still wait in anticipation...... Hope you get started soon.

Somehow the age thing drifted out of the general conversation. But it's something I've been wondering about. Lightly, like. Nice to see Vel pop up in my age bracket with 31. I'm 33.
      Later,

Do we really want to bring up the age thing again? Does it really matter??

At least I now know I'm working with a load of old crumblies.

        Just kidding..........

OLD CRUMBLIES!! I resemble that remark!

Well, I'd admit my age, but I've forgotten again (Alzheimers, you know). At least I haven't run out of Depends today.

          I'm 34.

Slats, that crumblies jibe has earned you a belt over the head with my Zimmer frame. Beware, young man!

              Later,
              Kek

P.S. Anyone interested in desigining a Crumblies faction? Population growth zero (longevity of course compensating), free old age home and bingo hall at every base, special weapon the Singularity Cane, averse (by misinterpretation) to the Green SE choice, probe teams can use the Death by Complaining option (major atrocity). Special unit: the Cheap and Underpowered Internal Combustion PTU (for gridlocking magtube systems). Anyone?

                Cotroneo,

Finally, a question I can answer! Before SMAC I had done no (zero, zip, nada) SF writing. Of course, I do a bunch of technical report writing for work (engineering/science-based environmental reports - I can see and hear the yawns from here!), but that doesn't count since technical writing is diametrically opposed to SF writing style.

LOL.....I love it! In fact, I think I will make an unofficial, SC commemorative "Old Crumblies" faction (am currently browsing the 'net for a suitable picture....hehehe)

Thinking of using the following game mechanics:

                  The Old Crumblies:

-2 Growth (Too old to think much about procreation....not to mention the fact that they're too busy with Bingo and Checkers)

+1 Economy (esp. commerce generated at craft, hardware, and lawn and garden stores)

                  Cannot make use of Green

Gets a former (john deere) at game start

                  Starting Tech: NONE!

Gets 3% Interest on money saved (passbook savings accounts your grandparents started when they were kids)

+1 Talent per base (representing the society's greater collected wisdom)

Immune to the negative effects to the faction's support rating.

-1 Commerce (tends to be a fairly closed, isolationist society)

Game Notes: They grow slowly, but sheesh they can make the bucks, and with the support immunity, they can run Dem. to counter their big negative, and still get free minerals when founding a new base. The commerce hurts, but not much, since the big money kick comes from the energy per square and interest earned.

The list of published books grows. If you're curious to see what sort of stories I weave out, head to Amazon.com and do an author search for "Christopher Hartpence." The writing question: Hmmmm.....just turned 31, so I've been writing for....23 years now....LOL....my first works were "comic books" put together for the other kids in the neighborhood....really hideous things, since I can't draw worth a damn, but, my parents thought it would be very theraputic for me to have writing as a creative outlet to help counter my (often amusing) problem of dyslexia. I did it because they wanted me to at first, but eventually it grew on me....

The alternate futures for the Chronicles characters are waiting at the crossroads for the Ashaandi trial results which Korn has promised.

Meanwhile Scott "Googlie" Allardyce is making his enforced vacation arrangements to look up his old mentor Ulrik Svensgaard

I think that the number of authors has shrunk as well.

When I made the Chiron Calendar (e-mail me if you'd like a copy) there were 14 posters, (neatly making fourteen months of 38 days in the Chiron year)

Now there's Me (and Paula, my alter ego), Hydro, Korn, Googlie, Vel, Slats and Tokek posting regularly - so we're half what we used to be.

We'd need to be twice as prolific to keep up

                            Saras,

SC has seemingly been written in bursts, so don’t despair. Also, it is possible that the SC authors are playing a little SMAX! I have actually completed 1.5 games! The little I have played has given me some nifty ideas, though…

Although there are fewer writers, as Rynn noted, the writers that remain are the ones that have historically contributed the most. New blood would be very welcome, though!

BTW – note to all: there are a couple of Spartan ‘units’ that are up for grabs. Off the top of my head I can think of the Southern Spartan Navy, the Spartan Ops teams (probes – I don’t understand why someone hasn’t snagged that one!), the Elites (special operations), and Amphib. The authors from these haven’t been seen in quite a while, so I think it is appropriate to give them a chance to claim their property or it will be given to an author that has the time/interest to post!

                            Any thoughts, fellow SCers? Reasonable?

                            Hydro

P.S. - Storm, I hope you will forgive my wandering into warrior land with my last post. I appreciate your vote of confidence and promise to get back to Sarah soon! Do you have any ideas for the Gaian's yet?

                              Slats:

Bit of a cross post (my Hivean governors report) - I hadn't realized that The Drone mound had actually fallen (it was where I had the ragtag Hive survivors regrouping)

Not to worry - I have edited mine to conform.

                                Rynn:

I thought that we'd agreed to swap characters - I'd do Kurt and you'd do Anastasia

never mind - it was a neat post - I'll "wriggle" my way out of the predicament.

And wait till you see where I leave Stazi
