Tech sidetracking
Has anyone noticed an exceptional amount of tech sidetracking in this game? I am trying to follow the same research path with University that I have follow in countless past games. Normally, I have one, or at most 2, sidetracks in the tech path I follow.
In this game, my last 3 techs have each been followed by a sidetrack. (By sidetrack I mean a tech that I don't particularly want right then, and that is not along the path I am trying to pursue.) I have been feeding tech to Marky in hopes that he can pick up a tech I need, but he is being sidetracked as well. I am at least 8 turns behind where I am normally am at this time, from a tech viewpoint.
Is this happening to everyone? Was there anything unusual in the game game setup?
I don't mean to be a whiner, but the techs I need are not appearing as earlier as my strategy needs them, so my game is suffering. So if you trounce me on this game, I hope we can try again and I can give you more of a challenge.

@mmontgomery: although your request seems reasonable enough, I'd hate to see these last months of gaming wasted.
Maybe we could consider running a parallel game with the same settings along with this one?
Anyway, the turn has been sent to Florin. All your base are belong to us

I was not suggesting abandoning this game. I just wanted to let you know if I was not being a challenging opponent, to chalk it up somewhat to an inferior start compared to similar games such as Marky's Excellent Adventure.
I also wanted to see if anyone else was having sidetracking issues. It could be that if everyone is having sidetracking issues that none of us are getting a great start. I also have no idea why this game is behaving this way, compared to the other games I have played.
For example, normally as University, I always pick Planetary Networks as my free tech, so that I can move to Planned as soon as I have the cash. But Planetary Networks was not available to me. I should have realized something was up and mentioned this at the beginning of the game and perhaps we could have restarted then, but I did not realize just how bad the sidetracking was going to be.
In any case, I am not suggesting restarting this game. I would be happy to start a parallel game if people want to, since most of my games are stalled. Or we can just wait until this game is finished and give it another try if people are willing.

For your las question - no, happened to me few times.
So, The sidetrack is killing my game as well. I wonted to pick Industrial Economics and all i got were 3 diferend techs then i expected. Elian is worryed about this game to and i think a truce and a restart is resonable. I see no point in starting a new parallel game. If you fell there are few games left, start another one, i wont play the same game twice. We are not that far ahead, so a restart will be ok for me.

I am fine with going on playing. It makes me feel like the game might be closer to know that everyone is in the same boat, being hampered by sidetracks, but I would have continued the game even if I was the only one being hindered.
It would be nice to understand what happened here, since this is my first experience ever with a game sidetracked like this, so that it won't happen in a future game or a restarted game.
I am also OK with restarting. The turns have been short, and go fast. I just hope that if we restart that we can keep some good momentum with high turn rates to get back to where we are. If we restart, we need to make sure that the game does not start sidetracked. University should always be offered Planetary Networks in the list of free tracks; since this occurs before any game actions could affect the techs offered, nothing should be able to change this. This was the first thing I noticed wrong with the current game.
