The Altera Centauri collection has been brought up to date by Darsnan. It comprises every decent scenario he's been able to find anywhere on the web, going back over 20 years.

I will test scenario for some number of turns, coz we have Pirates - I will try to determine if everyone has enough opportunities and no serious hindering drawbacks about the starting location.

After this many years we have quite a few ways to change that. It's maybe too late now, but AI may be sufficiently enhanced and no game files would be in need of modification on your computers (all this stuff gets saved in a save file, we now know what these settings are, which get into the save file and which don't)
Anyway, there should be balance between difficulty and ability to win, it is no fun to loose to AI in turn 40 or 50, but loosing transcendence to AI or maybe winning by 1 or 2 turns would be interesting. But it's so difficult to tune the scenario - there are numerous factors during play.
University should be able to choose the free tech. In the last test I haven't seen any problems. You should be able to select first techs ok, I had to move Morgan though one place up, switched with Gaians cause of Centauri Ecology tech. For some reason Morgan did not work well on 5th position. It should be ok now.
For graphics you can make a version of Alpha Centauri.ini with factions as in the turn tracking thread linked.
