  • New big IP game

I'm interested in starting a big (7 humans) IP game of SMAX (SMAC if any player doesnt have it, I dont really care).

I know these days it -is- difficult to do these kind of things, so that's why I don't write a date or anything.

Players may suggest any of the settings, I only ask to pick up a faction (Pirates, of course) but that's if no-one else -really- wants 'em, in that case I could pick up Uni, Gaia or Cyborg, don't really care.

My suggestion is Medium settings on everything, Pods ON, Random events ON, no player re-start...say what you want.

This would be on a weekend, of course.

    Anyone interested?

    That's it.

count me in! Everyone would have to commit to a 12-14 hour session - something like that, and time restrictions would have to be on. So that it got finished in one sitting, but i think this wouldn't be too difficult.

    I'll take Hive or Consciousness.

I'm interested. I'll take Uni. I'd suggest random events off also. I'm GMT +2.

I would like it to start 10am next sunday my time. But i think thats wishful thinking. What do you guys want?

Well, if i'm not counting bad we're 6 only (Veteran, Hobbes, Hercules, Muty69 and friend, and me) I sugget we wait a couple of days before setting a date, just in case we can get that magical 7 ^^
I'm ok with next weekend anyway, but I suggest we split the session in two-day 6-hour sessions...12 hours are too much (its not that I don't want to, I just can't .___. )

Everyone ok with that? Start posting preferences too, btw. And if we can get someone to set the game up, even better.

              That's it.

the only problem with 2 sessions, is it my be a ***** getting the game finished in the second session, like if people aren't going too well, they simply won't bother playing till the end and it'll ruin the game. Like if i'm allied with my neighbour then he quits, and AI take over, and declares war on me..

I think maybe a large map would be good coz. a standard would intense with 7 players and i don't think there would be much point going a builder game with standard map with 7 human players. Large you can at least get some infrastructure and have some choices.

Everything else i think should be standard in terms of fungus and rainfall. I would like directed research, not being able to choose is ****house. Um.... what else, map should be visible, pods on, flexible starting locations. The big thing would be simultaneous moves or not????

I agree with large for the reasons SmacxVet says.

I think 2 sessions is more practical but there would be the possibilities of quitting.

                    Directed research - yes
Visible map hmmm but it might speed the game.

I haven't played IP before so simultaneous moves or not. What's the difference.?

Ok I get it. One way is turn based, the other simul.

                      I presume simultaneous is faster.

                          Hey!

                          Player list:
                          Code:
                          Player Faction Timezone
                          -----------------------------------------
                          Lord_Icewind	Pirates GMT +2
                          SmacxVeteran	Hive GMT +10
                          H0bbes Uni GMT +2
                          muty69 Spartans	GMT +1
                          muty's friend	PKs GMT
                          Hercules	Drones GMT
                          bT(?) CyCon GMT +2
                          -----------------------------------------
Please check if your timezone is listed correctly and Lord_Icewind should provide his GMT.

When that's done you can decide when to do the game. I guess as most ppl are european it might be good saturday during the day (I prefer morning if you ask, which might also be good for SmacxVet, as it'd be evening for him).

Whether Im in depends on the time when you decide to start. If Im not in I can still do CMNing.

Also, we'll need a communication medium. I propose skype (www.skype.com) it's relatively lightweight and you can make permanent conference rooms with history there.

                            hi

My timezone is correct. My friend's timezone is GMT0(His nick is bullmaster). Saturday sounds perfect for me since we can continue on sunday if we like.

                            about the game settings,
If think games on large maps take aloot of time for micromanagement in the endgame and It will take too much time to finish. I mean when I think of it, it takes me damn long time playing alone and I don't even want to imagine how slow it will be with 7 human players. So my suggestion is to try a standard map and after we finish it if everyone is happy We can make 1 on a large map. Anyway if we play on a large map I'm for tech stagnation since then you have enough time to plan and build.

As for quiting or retiring from the game. For me it's perfectly normal that if someone is left with only 1 or 2 cities at the north pole or something like that that they surrender. By this I mean inform other players in advance and ask them if it's ok to do so.

About blind research, can you please explain to me what exactly is the problem with it. That's one of the options That I always loved in ac. Especialy in multiplayer since it brings a whole new dimension to the game. I mean if you fail to get the tech you wanted and wont me be able to attack your neighbor with your new shiny weapons then it's time for a little bit of diplomacy and so on. Anyway it's quite fun for me.

And why the map should be visible? I don't think it's a good idea especially if we play on a large map.

If you want I can host the game. I have a 10mpbs symmetric connection.

Also about simultaneous moves or turn based. Definitely sim, I don't think we'll have any connection problems and turn based with 7ppl.... it will be insanely slow
