i recall a recent Sid Meier Interview where i believe the only answer to a question about smac2 was a short "the rights to smac are with EA"

Whatever, what i really need is colonization 2

Really? I never picked up "Colonization" and have heard little about it. Was it a good game or were you being ironic?

I guess-- although when someone mentions probes in bases, I assume the bulk of them will be infantry probes. So I doubt anyone was mislead.

I suppose it wasn't too good, but back when i was 13 or 14 i didn't notice I sometimes play it out of nostalgia today, and when i do i play it for hours straight... despite the fact that it's boring if you really take a good look at it.

the game is a bit like the anno(1602, 1501, 1703) series or "die siedler" from germany, with 20 or so different wares, turned civish (colonies = cities (as production centers of wares and their own buildings + warehouses, and to be taken over as cities are in civ by units that are just pop points that are given 50 tons of muskets to temporarily make them soldiers, then moved out of a colony), map squares, turn based...)
And it predated most of the above games... no better way to decribe it though.

What can i say, i am german, it's the "company simulation game" gene, i just like looking at 120 tons of sugar waiting in new amsterdam to be loaded into my trade vessel and shipped to the old world next turn. I sometimes feel i haven't seen enough of the game.

I don't suppose most civ players found it good though

Yeah, but the context was long turns, so it sounded like i was moving around a lot of probes. Which i might or might not be

I see what you mean. although when I see someone with 2 probes per base of defensive probes, its not a big stretch to speculate that they could have a lot of offensive ones as well

you apologized when you take 6 hours to get a turn out ??

If thats the standard I should be begging forgiveness almost every turn (considering I have about 12 hours a day when I cannot play)

                        • Hehe, actually the turn arrived quite a few hours before drow mentioned it here.

btw, what are you and Sebp feeding your workers for breakfast?!

Are you talking about our population increases -- For me its creches plus Demo/Planned-- I assume its much the same for sebp unless he is GA ing it .

This IS about the time people can do a pretty good popboom

                            • Er... ah. I think I put down too many forests, and now my bases won't grow beyond size 4 or 5... even with Dem\Planned and Creches...

And it was all going so well up to this point!

edit: I've never done a popboom...

well a tip would be once to make sure to build a few condensor/farms to be crawled for FOUR nutrients each. Two crawlers on condensors per base can support 4 specialists-- heck even a crawler on an unterraformed rainy tile will support 1 specialist.

The other thing of course is to build treefarms but frankly I find some early condensor/farms help kickstart the popgrowth even quicker. Treefarms are great but they are costly and take a long time to build.

Like I said much earlier in this thread, I had prioritized population growth-- I did it by using some condensors and crawled farms. It may bite me in the butt if my mineral production is weak but it does help getting a larger population
