flubber/trotsky: strikes me as true. coop victories and permapacts are obviously identical. it doesn't have to be permapacts as early as flubber's 2120 example, but still it's essentially the same

darsnan: Thanks. I'd like to go with flubber's suggestion of a large map, or something in between large and normal? Other opinions? About AIs I forgot. We may still have to vote on this.
My vote is a NO AI.

I voted earlier to abstain on the AI issue. I'll play either way but if you want more of a builder game, getting rid of the AI helps with that-- There is more space for everyone and you con'r have to deal with completely irrational attacks

I also vote for no AI.

btw, I'll take the PKs (so we can get the factions set).

I'll change my vote to NO AI so that makes a majority and Darsnan can get started

Any other opinions on this? Personally I'd think that a Huge map would facilitate the Builders, however thats my opinion.
Also, as far as starting positions: do you want an "upgraded" starting position to speed up the early game?

My view is that a monolith and a river each might be nice but I don't want to make it too good since people should HAVE to make a decision as to whether to grab centauri ecology early. If the start is engineered as too favourable there is no decision to make

OK on this. I also asked about map size, which is probably more critical at this point, as I can sculpt in starting positions later, however really can't start ill I know for sure what map size you all want.

I will play any size that the group wants but would likely prefer something that is large

Large would be better for building.

                      sounds good.

Large map it is. One monolith with a river to start. Also, per the below, I will start everyone with 4 CPs (3 of which will be Speeder CPs to expedite placement of your other initial cities) and 3 Scouts, with Flubber getting his additional free Probe Team to start.
This is a Builder game, and so I will try to build the map accordingly.

Also, in order to expedite turnage I am thinking the follownig turn order will take advatange of where you each are geographically:

                        Flubber (Western Canada)
                        SebP (Continental Europe)
                        drow21 (England)
                        Mid (England)
                        Trotsky (South America)

Does this sound good to you?

I'll adopt the map settings from Trotsky's OP:
                        "Standard" world:
                        - Standard Planet
                        - 50-70% Ocean Coverage
                        - Average Erosive Forces
                        - Average Native Forms
                        - Average Cloud Cover

Also, CMNed for somewhat fair map positions.
Everyone starts with 4 colony pods, 3 scouts, and his usual techs and other advantages

                        Rules are:
                        - All victory conditions on
                        - But: NO Coop victories
                        - Look first
                        - Directed research
                        - No unity survey
                        No contacts before meeting ingame

Energy Stockpiling after unit builds: allowed
                        Crawler upgrading: allowed
Upgrading via Workshop and attacking on the same turn: NOT allowed

And remember try to roleplay your factions. And behave ladylike... at least for a while ;-) ? (with morgan, drones, tree huggers and the angels in the game there is enough potential for conflicts) War AND betrayal WILL ulimately result, as there is no coop victories. However, it doesn't have to be from the start...
