It just wasn't as much fun telling it from the formers crew point of view. I just imagine a naval admiral trying to explain the loss to their superiors-- "well sir , the earth just swallowed our ship"

You know. Even though i have no chance of survival and no real chance to hurt you, this is still fun in a way.
I only wish i had anticipated this in the slightest :-( i really need to work on that.

I am never as optimistic as you seem to be for me although I do like my chances with airpower arriving on the scene.

But I always fear the possible probe action or attack in an unexpected quarter

            • Oh ya and on anticipation. . . I ALWAYS assume my neighbors MAY want to attack me. IN a PBEM this form of paranoia is usually accurate.

I have written often in the general forum about the strategic use of formers. I have been implementing those ideas in this game.

I am assuming your comment comes as you are finding out that most of your mapping is no longer correct .

I will confess that very little of my coast is where it once was. Naval power like say destroyer probeships aided by the MCC .. . just as a for instance . .. should find that they have a very limited number of targets to hit.

Well I will say that warfare against a strong opponent can be quite a lot of fun in Smax even if one side has an advantage.

PLaying against the AI is nowhere near the same. I know that the AI will totally blow positions where they have overwhelming forces but have no idea how to handle them. In single player there are tonnes of times where if the human were given the AI's military position, the game would be over very very soon. BUt the AI just idiotiocally dribbles units into kill zones and prepared defenses

I never play against the AI because of this very reason (+ they can't even build nowhere near as good as I, much less as good as you).
I think the last game i played against the AI was in 2002... but i haven't been playing PBEM since 2001 either.

I still play single-player but it is usually against AI that have their production and behaviors tweaked a lot such as in some of the challenges set up by Darsnan

                            • On to SebP.

I don't play vanilla SMAX against AI but I play the posted scenarios frequently.
