The powergraph is there but again I don't put much weight on it-- 1-2 techs can make a HUGE difference in your standing

    • that i meant, the early power graph is all about techs (from pods) that may be useless to the owner and worse, may slow down the research in the direction he WANTS to take... i may even have been lucky

Yes, the tech cost tends to rise disproportionnally after the few first techs...

I sometimes want to AVOID getting less valuable techs for that very reason. Tech costs can explode and that harmless tech or two that you pick up can cost you a decade on your main beelines

                • Chairman Yang rushed into the situation room and addressed the assembled generals.

"What's going on ? Why have I been summoned?"

He was surprised to see that the signals colonel speak up. " Chairman, as you know we have previously identified 4 separate signal sources through the commlinks. While we could not pinpoint the locations, and the content was too garbled to decipher, we were certain that we had 4 signals from other Unity survivors . . well sir we have 2 more signals"

"How can that be? I thought only 5 escape pods ejected successfully," said the Chairman

" That's right sir. Based on our analysis of the transmissions, we see two geographically separate sources transmitting on frequencies that include ones inaudible to the unaided human ear. Based on this and the nature of the transmissions wE have concluded that these transmissions are not human in origin."

The general of the FIRST PATROL ARMY spoke up, " As you know, we have encountered sentient beings on this Planet in the form of those mindworm boils but we do not believe them to be technologically capable of these transmissions. That leaves either a more advanced local species or another spacefaring visitor such as ourselves. At present we have no information on which to make that determination or to measure their capabilities"

"What can you tell me?" demanded the Chairman

The signals colonel replied, " The signals appear to be transmitted at least 230 kilometres away from the nearest of our receptors and the median estimates are in the range of 1500-2000km. Our directional equipment is rather primitive and is not providing much assistence.

The chief of staff spoke " We have no idea of their capabilities or their intentions but it appears that these transmitters are more powerful than anything we currently have. We should assume a potential foe that is more advanced than we are. I recommend focusing research on military applications for a time and beginning a program of sensor deployment so that we might have early detection of any threat"

I do enjoy it . . . I don't claim to be good at it but my most fun games were ones when people participated from time to time

I find that I get a little time for it at work on my lunch break or if on a boring phone conference

Fair comment-- Most people don't have the time or the inclination. If no one picks it up in this thread, I'll quit after a few goes.

I actually find it easiest to do in the context of intense dealings with other factions. Wars are incredible for it actually

                          • A question, why do I have /everyone's/ commlink? I know why I have one, but why the rest? turn held until I know this.

                            Comment

                            • If you mean by commlink the fact that you can contact other faction leaders in-game, that's NOT a commlink but rather an option in the game that makes that every human player can contact each other until a real contact has been established.
(BTW This can be desactivated in alpha.txt but all the players must do it)

Since this option harms strategy and roleplay, we decided in the rules to make as if this option was desactivated : until you have physically contacted a player or got his commlink in a pod / by another faction, you are forbidden to any trade/communication with him.
(except this forum of course : only for turn-transfer matters, roleplay...)
